Aaron Jones rushed for a career-high 168 yards and scored three touchdowns, including a 75-yard breakaway, as the Green Bay Packers rallied from an early 11-point deficit to beat the Detroit Lions 42-21.  Jones also had a team-high 68 yards receiving on four catches, including a 7 yard touchdown catch,as the Packers won their home opener for an eighth consecutive year.

Aaron Rodgers was 18 of 30 for 240 yards with touchdown passes to Jones and Robert Tonyan.

One week after blowing a 17-point, fourth-quarter lead in a 27-23 loss to the Chicago Bears, the Lions allowed an 11-point advantage to vanish by halftime as they fell for the 11th consecutive time.

Green Bay took the lead for good 17-14 on Rodgers’ 11-yard pass to Tonyan with 14 seconds left in the second quarter. Jones then raced through a hole on the right side and scored on the Packers’ first play from scrimmage in the second half.

Jones’ 75-yard burst was the longest touchdown run by a Packer since Ahman Green had a 90-yarder against Dallas in 2004.

The Packers extended the lead to 31-14 later in the third quarter when Rashan Gary pressured Matthew Stafford into throwing an interception that Chandon Sullivan returned for a 7-yard touchdown. Sullivan fell to the ground before crossing the goal line but got back up and reached the end zone.

Detroit was playing without several key players due to injury but took an early 14-3 lead by scoring touchdowns on its first two possessions. Kerryon Johnson capped the first series with a 1-yard run. Detroit’s second drive ended with Matthew Stafford’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones.

The Packers played without defensive tackle Kenny Clark, who injured his groin in a 43-34 victory at Minnesota last week. Packers receiver Davante Adams (hamstring), center Corey Linsley (hand) and running back/receiver Tyler Ervin (concussion) left in the second half.

Next up for the Packers is a trip to New Orleans to play the Saints next Sunday night.

Elsewhere in the NFC North Sunday the Vikings lost at Indianapolis 28-11 to drop to 0-2 and the Bears (1-1) held on at home over the Giants, 17-13.

Last night the Seahawks made a goal-line stand and held off the Patriots in Seattle 35-30.  Russell Wilson tossed five touchdown passes for Seattle.  Tonight, New Orleans plays the Raiders in Las Vegas.

Daniel Vogelbach belted a pair of homers and drove in all five runs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Sunday to sweep the three-game interleague matchup.  Vogelbach, claimed by the Brewers off waivers earlier this month, hit a two-run home run to straightaway center with two outs in the first off Brad Keller (4-3). He blasted a three-run opposite-field shot to chase Keller in the sixth. Vogelbach has three home runs since joining the Brewers and five on the season.  Vogelbach had a chance to do even more damage but struck out with the bases loaded in the seventh in a seven-pitch at-bat.

Milwaukee closed out the regular-season schedule at Miller Park in what was possibly the final home game in a Brewers uniform for Ryan Braun, the 2007 NL Rookie of the Year and the 2011 MVP who has spent his entire 14-year career with the franchise. Braun, who will turn 37 in November, is in the final guaranteed year of a five-year, $105-million contract extension signed in 2011.  Braun went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Brewers improved to 26-26 with their fourth consecutive win and reached the .500 mark for the first time since they were 11-11.

Josh Lindblom (2-3), who was reinstated from the bereavement list prior to the start of the game, turned in another effective outing for the Brewers. He gave up one run and three hits in 5 1/3 innings, with two strikeouts and no walks.  Josh Hader retired the lone batter he faced to notch his 10th save in 12 tries after Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Brent Suter to cut the lead to 5-3.

The Royals plated their first run in the sixth on Whit Merrifield’s RBI groundout.

Keller, who pitched a five-hit shutout in an 11-0 win in his previous start on Sept. 13 against Pittsburgh, gave up five hits and five runs in five innings.

In other news, the Brewers placed OF Ben Gamel on 10-day injured list with a left quadriceps injury. Braun, who has been dealing with lower back stiffness, started at DH with Vogelbach playing first.

Tonight, RHP Brandon Woodruff (2-4, 3.45) will take the mound as Milwaukee begins a three-game series at Cincinnati. Woodruff is 3-2 with a 4.25 ERA in seven career games (five starts) against the Reds.  First pitch is at 5:40 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3FM, WISS.

Elsewhere in the NL Central on Sunday, the Twins blanked the Cubs 4-0,  the Reds beat the White Sox 7-3 and St. Louis edged Pittsburgh 2-1.

In a battle of two of stock-car racing’s titans, Kevin Harvick swapped the lead with Kyle Busch and held off the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion over an intense string of closing laps to win Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Harvick picked up his ninth victory of the season, his second of the Round of 16 in the 2020 NASCAR Playoffs and his third at Bristol. The driver of the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford finished .310 seconds ahead of Busch, who remained frustrated in a winless season. One more win and Harvick will become the 11th driver in NASCAR’s modern era to accomplish a 10-win season. He’ll be the first since Jimmie Johnson met the milestone in 2007.  Wisconsin’s Matt Kenseth finished 14th.
