Aaron Rodgers began his 13th season as Green Bay’s starting quarterback by passing for 364 yards and four touchdowns as the Packers beat the Vikings 43-34 at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday.

In series history, the Packers improved to 63-54-3 against the Vikings, and Rodgers is now 15-8-1 against the team.

The Packers stayed inside their locker room during the playing of the National Anthem and ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’, and Packers President /CEO Mark Murphy issued a statement early in the game regarding the team’s decision:

The Green Bay Packers respect the national anthem and United States flag and all that they represent, including the right to express ourselves. We decided as a team to remain in the locker room during the playing of the national anthem and ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ so as to not distract from our message that we stand united for social justice and racial equality. This is part of our continued call on our leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue that results in change. We feel it is important for all of us to participate in these difficult conversations with humility and be open to different perspectives.”

Rodgers took full advantage of the young cornerbacks and the empty stadium in Minnesota.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard each reached the end zone, too, as Green Bay had its way with a renovated Minnesota defense. Packers kicker Mason Crosby also kicked two field goals, from 31 and 43 yards, and helped the Packers get on the board during their first drive. Aaron Jones rushed 16 times for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Dalvin Cook rushed for two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions for the Vikings, who hosted the rival Packers without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Players Lucas Patrick and Kenny Clark both left the game with injuries, and were ruled out for a shoulder and groin injury, respectively.

Clark signed a contract extension just last month, and became the highest-paid nose tackle in NFL history, and the 12th highest paid defender in the league at the time of the signing. The deal was for four more years, and $70 million with a $25 million signing bonus.

Green Bay also lost guard Lane Taylor later in the game to a knee injury, and he was carted off the field.

Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Bears rallied from a 17 point deficit if the second half to beat the Lions in Detroit, 27-23.

Last night the 49ers held on to beat the Cowboys 20-17.

Tom Brady threw two interceptions, one which was returned for a touchdown in his Tampa Bay debut, as the Saints won at home over the Buccaneers 34-23.

Two games are on tap for tonight as Pittsburgh is on the road against the Giants and Tennessee is at Denver.

Cubs right-hander Alec Mills cruised through baseball’s second no-hitter this season, completing the 16th such gem in Chicago franchise history in a 12-0 romp over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mills got Jace Peterson, who replaced star slugger Chritsian Yelich late in the blowout, to hit a routine grounder to shortstop Javier Baez with two outs in the ninth.

Baez completed the play, and the Cubs swarmed around Mills, tearing off his cap and pulling at the smiling right-hander’s uniform after his first career complete game in his 15th start.

Elsewhere in the NL Central Sunday, the Royals shut out Pittsburgh 11-0 and the Reds doubled up on the Cardinals 10-5.

The Green Bay Packers have announced they will be wearing a decal honoring the life of former player Willie Davis for the entire 2020 season on their helmets. Davis, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member died in April at the age of 85.

The team made the announcement late Sunday morning, saying each player will have a number 87 decal on their helmet.

He was also a long-time member of the Packers Board of Directors, and was named to the NFL’s 1960′s All-Decade Team. He holds the all-time Packers record for career fumble recoveries with 21, according to team officials.

The Packers have honored other players in similar fashion, including Bart Starr in 2019, Reggie White in 2004, and Tony Canadeo in 2003.

In the NBA Western Conference Semifinals Sunday, the Nuggets won at home over the Clippers 111-98 to even their series at three games apiece. Game seven is Tuesday.

In Nascar, Kevin Harvick won the 2020 Southern 500 Sunday. The win moved him past Kyle Busch into ninth on the all-time Nascar Series wins list. It was Harvicks 57th win.
