Ripon Common Council Discusses ATV/UTV Routes

Following a nearly hour-long discussion Monday night about the possibility of ATV and UTV routes in the City of Ripon the Ripon Common Council tabled the item for future consideration. Alderman Benjamin Morrison had proposed reconsidering the issue, which was previously considered two years ago. Two members of an ATV and UTV club out of the towns of Alto and Waupun talked about the ordinance Waupun has had in place for the last year. They said except for initial complaints in the first three months there has been nothing since. Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner said most of the complaints were for noise and traffic violations. He voiced some of the same concerns he brought up a couple years ago including the ability for someone who has had their driver’s license taken away for drunken driving to be able to still ride on an ATV or UTV. He says that could be taken care of by requiring a driver’s license to operate an ATV and UTV in the city. He also said the Town of Ripon should be incorporated in talks about allowing that type of use in the city. Wallner suggested the city wait until there are routes connected to Ripon by nearby townships before allowing use in the city. Alderman James Werch echoed that concern saying without a network of routes the city would be an island if it allowed their use. Ripon City Attorney Lud Wurtz helped craft an ATV/UTV for Omro, which Wallner says was better than one included in the Council’s information packet for the meeting.

Car Break Ins Reported In Ripon

Waupun Man Injured While On Drugs

A 28-year-old Waupun man who was delusional and suspected of being on drugs ended up harming himself last Thursday in Waupun. He initially injured himself by punching through a glass window in the 100 block of North Madison Street and then walked into a business yelling unintelligibly and bleeding heavily from his arm. The owner of the business called 9-1-1, but the man left the business running toward Veteran’s Memorial Field before police arrived. A bystander at the field witnessed the man climb up the bleachers and fall over the top. Police and EMS arrived at the scene and the man was taken to Waupun Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries. No one else was injured. The incident is still under investigation.

No American Troop Deaths In Afghanistan In Seven Months

Congressman Glenn Grothman says he’s surprised the Trump Administration hasn’t talked about one of its little known success stories during the Presidential campaign. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says it has been seven months since President Trump’s peace agreement with the Taliban and in that time no American troops have been killed in Afghanistan. “We right now have gone seven months in this country without a combat death in Afghanistan. This is something that has been dragging on for approaching 20 years now, I think very few people know that.” Grothman says Trump’s Presidential campaign has spent more time talking about the economy, the stock market, and unemployment but this was a piece of good news they could have talked about.

ADVOCAP Job Opportunities

ADVOCAP, which serves Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago counties have a couple of part-time jobs available. Paul Osterholm of ADVOCAP says one is for a part-time bus driver. “We need, ADVOCAP, out in the Markesan area a part-time bus driver. What a way to make a difference in a child’s life and it’s going to our Prairieview site dropping kiddos off and picking them up.” The other part-time job is for drivers to deliver meals in the Oshkosh and Neenah area.  He says with COVID-19 and Senior Center closings there have been more shut-ins and there has been a large demand for drivers to deliver meals. Those who are interested can find out more at ADVOCAP’s website.
