Ripon Schools Learning Model Remains In Place For Now
Ripon Area School District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says even though school districts around them are shifting back to virtual learning, they will continue with their current model. She says Kindergarten-through-5th Grade classes will continue to have face-to-face instruction and 6th through 12th graders blended learning. In a notification sent out to families she says they will require masks for all students and staff as ordered by Governor Evers in an extension of his masking requirement this week. She says depending on the health of students and staff they could shift to a virtual learning model in a school or class before the next School Board meeting in October.
FDL Men Indicted On Federal Charges
Four Fond du Lac men have been federally indicted in a firearms case in which they are accused of recruiting a heroin user to buy guns. The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Matthew Krueger, says the four are being indicted on charges of conspiracy to make a false statement to a licensed firearms dealer and possession of firearms by felons. The four are 28-year-old Jonathan Griffith, 37-year-old Jason Spinks, 25-year-old Shakie Davis, and 36-year-old Treon Davis. The four allegedly sold heroin in the area and used their heroin distribution network to recruit one of their heroin customers to purchase eleven firearms for them over and eight-month period. Fond du Lac Police Chief Bill Lamb says, “The gun violence that is associated with the drug trade is an epidemic that is ripping too many cities in our nation apart and we are committed to preventing that type of criminal activity in our city.”

Sentence Upheld
An 11-year prison sentence for a man convicted in a fraud scheme that amounted to $14 million was upheld by a state appeals court Wednesday. Sterling Kienbaum was the owner of Fox Valley Iron and Metal. He was involved in a scheme in which scrap automobiles were filled with extra weight and sold to Sadoff Iron and Metal in Fond du Lac. Kienbaum argued that under federal court sentencing guidelines he would have gotten less than four years in prison. The appeals court wrote in its decision that state circuit courts are not bound by federal guidelines and the sentence was appropriate.
Watertown Woman Sentenced In Drug Death
A 52-year-old Watertown woman was sentenced Wednesday in Dodge County court to 6 years in prison and 14 years of extended supervision on a first degree reckless homicide charge for supplying the substance that caused the death of a teen. When the 16-year-old victim died in January of 2016 one of the drugs found during an autopsy was methadone. Witnesses say Debra Patroelj usually sold Percocet to the teenager. In this case the victim had traded $30 worth of marijuana to Patroelj for six methadone pills. The teen was found dead later that evening in a residence on Perry Street in Watertown. Assistant District Attorney James Sempf says prison was necessary to protect the community from the defendant’s ways.
Scam Warning
Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say scammers have upped their game. It is not unusual for scammers to spoof the phone numbers of law enforcement agencies to attempt to get money out of you. But one scammer with an accent left a voicemail saying he was Lieutenant Craig Quick with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. The problem is there actually is a Lieutenant Craig Quick with their office. The Sheriff’s Office says the best way to verify if they called is to look up their phone number call them and ask.
