UW Organ and Tissue Donation Honors Ripon Medical Center

Ripon Medical Center is being honored by University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) for its ongoing commitment to saving and improving lives through organ and tissue donation.
UW OTD is recognizing Ripon Medical Center with the Excellence in Tissue Donation award as a Versiti partner hospital who is achieving at least a 60 percent consent rate. This metric measures the collaborative work between the hospital staff and tissue bank in coordinating communication around tissue consent conversations.
“The clinical management of donors, coupled with a hospital’s compassionate support of donor families, is a critical component to saving lives through the gift of organ donation and transplantation,” says Michael Anderson, executive director of UW OTD. “We honor these hospitals and their incredible physicians and nursing teams for working so hard to help ensure that those who are waiting for a transplant will get a second chance at life.”
Coordinating organ and tissue donations requires a team effort, according to Jenifer Bunker, director of Inpatient, Emergency and Surgical Services at Ripon Medical Center. “Organ and tissue donation have a different focus in small rural hospitals,” she says. “It requires a team committed to diligently focusing on early identification of eligible donors and compassionate conversations with families. Our emergency service and inpatient teams are invested in doing their part to ensure that whenever there is a loss we maximize the opportunity to improve the lives of others through tissue donation.”
UW OTD is a federally designated organ procurement organization serving 108 hospitals in Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois.
