Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put Brooklyn ahead to stay, and the Nets beat Milwaukee 119-116 on Tuesday to keep the Bucks from clinching the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Luwawu-Cabarrot finished with a career-high 26 points. Garrett Temple scored 19, Tyler Johnson and Justin Anderson each had 11 and Rodions Kurucs and Chris Chiozza had 10 apiece.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 16 points playing only the first half for Milwaukee, which has lost two of three seeding games. Kyle Korver scored 13 points, and Ersan Ilyasova had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Frank Mason III added 11 points.

The Nets have a patchwork lineup but are fighting Orlando for seventh place in the East and putting more distance between ninth-place Washington as they try to avoid a play-in for the final postseason spot.

The Nets led 94-88 at the start of the fourth, and the Bucks went on a 16-10 run to take their first lead of the second half at 107-104 on a 3-pointer by D.J. Wilson with 5:31 left. Sterling Brown’s 3 with 3:56 left put the Bucks up 110-107.

Chiozza scored on a reverse layup, then Luwawu-Cabarrot hit a 3 with 2:59 left to put the Nets ahead to stay. He added a second with 2:31 to go. Korver hit a long jumper with 1:48 left, but it was ruled two points and not a 3 that would have tied it at 115.

Milwaukee appeared ready to clinch from the opening tip as the Bucks scored eight of the first 10 points and hit 7 of 14 beyond the arc. The Nets led 40-34 at the end of the first quarter and 73-65 at halftime.

Eloy Jimenez took Brandon Woodruff way out to center with a man on in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game. And for the second straight night, Jose Abreu gave Chicago the lead for good, this time with an RBI single in the 7th, chasing home an unearned run off Devin Williams.  Woodrufff lasted six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out eight and walking one. Devin Williams, (0-1) pitched one inning and took the loss.  Lucas Giolito went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out nine and walking three and picked up the victory to even his record at 1-1.  Alex Colome picked up his third save.

Accountable is one of the buzzwords of training camps across the NFL this year as teams prepare for a season unlike any other while dealing with a pandemic.

“I think there’s obviously a lot of accountability on the players about what you’re doing outside the facility and I think that’s where the responsibility lies,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said.

“It’s with guys making good decisions and monitoring themselves and doing the preventative things to help build your immune system the best you can and then being smart about your interactions.”

“It means a lot more to me to keep my family, my coaches, my teammates, and everybody else in this organization safe,” Packers wide receiver Davante Adams said. “Going out, I could obviously go hang out at all the Green Bay clubs, but I decided I’m just not going to do that this year. I’m just going to stay home and do what’s best for the team.”

“If we want to continue to play, you want to have a chance to have everybody available,” NT Kenny Clark said.

“Have a chance to compete for a Super Bowl, then we’re going to have to live through those guidelines: stay in the house and quarantine and handle our business the right way.”

For Adams, he said he weighed all the options when it came to playing this season, but decided he will not opt out for the year.

“I love the game. I love my teammates. I’ve put a lot into this. I kind of think about my legacy when all is said and done,” Adams said.

“This is a tricky time in the world, but at the same time, I truly believe this is not something we can necessarily run from.”

Meanwhile coach Matt LaFleur was asked if he and his staff will have to restructure practice sessions  because of the limited amount they are allowed to have.  He said it’s something they’re still looking at and a lot will depend on the health of the players.  LaFleur said they’ll have to be ready to make adjustments to their schedule.
