The Big Ten conference will cancel football this fall and attempt to move its games to the second semester according to the Journal Sentinel.  The big news, calling off the Wisconsin Badgers season, comes a day after Big Ten member presidents met on Saturday to discuss the Covid-19 pandemic’s effect on college football. And the news came mere hours after the “Power 5” conference commissioners had met, with ESPN reporting the Big Ten’s cancellation of games was imminent with the conference seeking a unified front from the major conferences. Christian Yelich homered, tripled and drew a bases-loaded walk as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied to beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-3 on Sunday for their first home victory. The Brewers avoided falling to 0-5 at home for the first time since 1970, the franchise’s inaugural season in Milwaukee. The Brewers’ slumping lineup was potent in the late innings. Justin Smoak delivered hits from each side of the plate during a six-run rally in the sixth. The Brewers poured it on with back-to-back homers from Keston Hiura and Yelich in the seventh.  Starter Brandon Woodruff went four innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two. Brent Suter (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings while scattering three hits and picked up the win.   Reds starter Sonny Gray (3-1) was replaced with one out in the sixth inning.  He gave up four runs on six hits and suffered his first loss.  The Brewers host the Twins tonight.  Minnesota will send Randy Dobnak (2-1) against fellow right-hander Adrian Houser (1-0).  First pitch is at 7:10 and the game can be heard on AM1100/98.3, WISS.

Elsewhere in the N.L. Central on Sunday, the Tigers nipped the Pirates 2-1 and Chicago at St. Louis was postponed.

Collin Morikawa hit an epic drive on the 16th hole that led to an eagle and propelled him on to win the PGA Championship Sunday in San Francisco.  The 23-year old’s drive on the 294 yard par four came to rest just seven yards from the hole and he drained the putt to give him a two stroke cushion.   Morikawa finished at 267, 13 under par and two strokes ahead of Paul Casey and third round leader Dustin Johnsond.  Five others finished three strokes behind. Morikawa becomes one of the only four players to win a PGA Championship at the age of 23.  The others are Tiger Woods, Rory Mcilroy and Jack Nicklaus
