Absentee Voting Reminders

In-person absentee voting is underway in Wisconsin for next Tuesday’s Primary Election. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says the deadline for that is 11:59 Sunday night, but you should check with your municipal clerk because most clerks don’t hold those types of hours. For instance the deadline for in-person absentee voting in the City of Ripon is 5 pm this Friday. Freiberg recommends making your request for a ballot by mail now because although the deadline is Thursday that doesn’t guarantee you will receive it and get it back out in the mail by next Tuesday’s deadline. “If you want one by mail Thursday at 5 pm is the deadline. However, I strongly, strongly urge you not to wait until then.” She also reminds voters since it is a primary election they can only vote for candidates in one party, otherwise you run the risk of having the ballot invalidated.

Ripon Absentee Voting

The City of Ripon has established a schedule for in-person absentee voting for the August 11th Primary Election. Today and tomorrow it will be from 8 am to 4 pm and Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 5 pm at the City Hall at 100 Jackson Street in the City Clerk’s Office. Anyone with questions should contact City Clerk Ann Schommer at 920-748-4915. Proof of residency is required to register to vote. Photo ID is required to vote.

Community Health Survey

A community health survey will be conducted in Fond du Lac County beginning tomorrow. The survey will supplement a prior community health assessment conducted in 2017 with updated data and the ability to analyze trends over time. A random selection of 2,000 county addresses will be mailed the survey between August and September. A household resident over the age of 18 will be asked to complete the survey online or return a completed paper copy of the survey in the mail. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller encourages those who receive the survey to complete it. The results will be released next year and are one source of data  for the 2020-21 Community Health Assessment.

Virtual Field Trips Created For Ripon Students

Despite the pandemic, students in the Ripon Area School District have been able to get out on a variety of field trips without leaving the comfort of their home. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says they’ve been able to offer a variety of virtual field trips thanks to video shot by staff members and businesses in the community. “Yeah there are ways for us as adults to go out and when we are having a fun adventure, experience or even doing something at home that we think might be of interest if we can video tape and talk about that we can send these videos out to students so that they can experience what that might look like.” She says a few examples include a video a staff member shot of sturgeon spawning, sports and athletics adults participated in, and Whitrock and her husband got involved when they went to South Woods and shot video of snow melting and the resulting rise of water levels. She invites anyone to create a video appropriate for students and to send it to a teacher, staff member or school principal so it can be shared.

Ripon Wine Walk Cancelled

The Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce and Ripon Main Street have made the difficult decision to postpone the Downtown Ripon Summer Wine Walk due to concerns regarding COVID-19. The event is being moved to Friday, August 6th, 2021. Officials say they were hopeful about hosting the event because it is an outdoor event, but they realized that meeting recommendations for social distancing and hosting large scale events would be difficult if not impossible for the Wine Walk which attracts more than 500 people from across the state. Tickets for the event will be honored for the rescheduled date in 2021, and refunds are available.

Oshkosh Recreation Department Registration Delayed

Registration for the Oshkosh Recreation Department’s school year in-person youth and adult activities is temporarily on hold. Online registration was scheduled to begin yesterday. However, the decision to delay registration was made to allow additional time to evaluate program offerings and ensure alignment with the Oshkosh Area School District’s reopening and safety protocols amid COVID-19. Recreation Department registration is expected to open soon and the new registration timeline will be shared as quickly as possible. An update will be provided next week.
