Election Day

It’s Primary Election Day in Wisconsin. Voters need to remember they can only vote for one party during this election. Winners in primary races will advance to the November Election. Among the offices that will be voted on are Congressional, State Senate, State Assembly, and county offices like District Attorney, County Clerk, County Treasurer, and Register of Deeds. Voters have a choice of voting Democratic, Republican or for Constitution Party candidates. Polls will be open until 8 pm. Wisconsin residents already voted for their preferences in the Presidential primary back in April. Results will be posted on this website.

Two Months Between COVID Deaths For FDL County

Prior to the weekend Fond du Lac County recorded its 7th COVID-19 death since the outbreak began in February. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says although the total number of cases continues to escalate the county has been fortunate not to have had a lot of deaths due to the coronavirus. “You know I think we are doing really good in that area. We’re constantly watching them and you know with the amount of people who are currently active and how low are numbers are for the people who are hospitalized we are doing a very  good job in that area.” Mueller notes their last death due to COVID was on June 4th. The seventh victim last Friday was a man in his 90’s.

FDL County Health Department Cancels Flu Shot Clinics

There won’t be an influenza vaccination clinic at the Ripon Senior Activity Center this fall. The center received word Monday from the Fond du Lac County Health Department that due to the demands COVID-19 is placing on their department and the community they won’t be administering paying influenza vaccine at the health department or through clinics at community partner sites. They instead are encouraging residents to get their vaccine through other community agencies and at local clinics and pharmacies. They will continue the Vaccine for Children program for those who are eligible by appointment only. In Ripon residents will be able to get flu shots through Ripon Drug, Walgreen’s and their health care physician.

Voter Turnout

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says during a normal election year she’d expect 20-something percent of voters to cast their ballots in the August Primary election, but that isn’t the case this year. She’s expecting a higher turnout in the Ripon area, which has races for the 14th State Senate District and 41st State Assembly District, but a little lower across the rest of the county. “The rest of the county it would be the average about a 20 some percent turnout, however it might be just a little bit higher because of the amount of absentee ballots that were sent out.” She says during the April election quite a few people voting absentee put on their request they wanted ballots for the rest of the year forgetting about the August Primary Election. For that reason she believes the voter turnout might actually be a little bit higher.

First Woman Circuit Court Judge For Dodge County

Dodge County swore in a new Circuit Court judge last week, making some new history for the court. Judge Kristine Snow is the first woman to serve on the Circuit Court bench in Dodge County. Last April she narrowly defeated James Sempf winning by a little over 300 votes with over 20,000 votes cast in the race. Snow succeeds Judge Steven Bauer who decided not to seek another term.
