Fire At Signature Wafer

Firefighters in Ripon responded to a fire at the Signature Wafers’ plant at 850 Stanton Street Sunday morning just before 7:30 am. There was a fire in a trash container adjacent to the building. Flames from the fire damaged the side of the building. Several area fire departments responded to provide mutual aid including Fond du Lac, Brandon-Fairwater, Princeton and Grand River. Sonic Booms During Northern Lightning Training Exercise

More than 50 aircraft from seven different states will be participating in the annual Northern Lightning Counterland training exercise at Volk Field in Camp Douglas that runs today through August 21st. Officials say those in the military operating area, a 55 by 200 mile space, may hear sonic booms between 10 am and 4 pm during weekdays. Increased military flight operations can be expected in the airspace over 21 different counties including; Columbia, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Waupaca and Winnebago counties.

Former Waupun Inmate Charged With Attempted Murder Charge

A former inmate at Waupun Correctional Institution has been charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide for stabbing a corrections officer at the prison last Christmas Eve. Forty-year-old Greg Phillips has since been moved to Green Bay Correctional. Phillips allegedly stabbed the guard with a shank in the recreational area at Waupun Correctional. The officer was stabbed 13 times. Phillips will make his initial court appearance in Dodge County court on the attempted murder and other felony charges on September 17th.

Green Bay Man Charged For Chase In Waupun

A 20-year-old Green Bay man is facing a felony fleeing charge for leading Waupun Police on a vehicle chase at the beginning of the month. According to the criminal complaint Joseph Figueroa was clocked going 20 miles an hour over the speed limit on West Main Street Sunday, August 2nd. Officers lost contact with him, but spotted the parked vehicle on Grandview Avenue Figueroa and a woman were walking nearby. Figueroa told officers he fled because he didn’t have many points left on his driver’s license and was afraid of losing it. His next appearance in Dodge County court is for a preliminary hearing on September 10th.

Hwy 23 Improvement Has Several Benefits

The Vice President of Economic Development for Envision Greater Fond du Lac says the expansion of State Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Sheboygan County to four lanes is a very positive catalyst for economic development. Jim Cleveland says it will be an important link for companies in the county to the Lake Michigan shoreline. “You know that four-lane highway is going to give better access to companies located in Fond du Lac County better access to for example the I-43 corridor which runs along the lake shore.” He says it will also improve the safety of the highway, which is a concern for companies whose employees travel back and forth on the corridor to get to work and then go home.

Town Hall Meetings Different In COVID Era

Due to the coronavirus recent Town Hall meetings Congressman Glenn Grothman has held with constituents of the 6th Congressional District have taken measures to keep people safe from COVID-19 while expressing their concerns over government issues. One such meeting in Sheboygan Falls last Monday was held in Rochester Park. “We even did one in Sheboygan Falls outdoors the first time I’ve ever done an outdoors Town Hall. But then what we did is we did some online meetings in which we called around. We did one for Green Lake and Marquette County and one for Columbia and Dodge County and those worked out too.” He says some of the topics were issues of the day like policing and the coronavirus.

ADVOCAP Head Start Registration Underway

ADVOCAP is holding registration for its Head Start program this week. Registration in Fond du Lac is today through Wednesday and in Green Lake and Ripon Thursday and Friday by appointment only. Lorri Bohn is the Family Engagement Manager for the Head Start Program. She says you can get the ball rolling by calling her at 920-922-7760, extension 3544. Bohn notes children won’t be allowed at the registration sites. “We are asking people that they attend if they can leaving their children at home just to keep the physical distancing as much as we can and to bring a mask. If you do not have a mask we will provide you with one.” During the half-day head start program and 4K full-day programs they will be following CDC and Health Department guidelines to protect everyone from COVID-19.

The Ripon Main Street program has a limited supply of face masks, hand sanitizer and social distancing available for downtown businesses on a first come, first serve basis. Disposable 3-layer earloop face masks come in a 50 count box at a cost of $30 per box.
