Baseball is back, and the Nationals and Yankees will ring in the first game of the 2020 Major League season Thursday night at Nationals Park. Washington will begin its quest to defend its World Series title and become the first team to win back-to-back championships since their Opening Day opponents accomplished the feat from 1998-2000. New York, meanwhile, will try to follow up its 103-win ’19 season with a run at its 28th title. Max Scherzer starts for the Nationals against the Yankees Gerrit Cole.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Meanwhile the Brewers open their regular season Friday night in Chicago against the Cubs.  A pair of right-handers face each other.  Brandon Woodruff goes for the Crew against the Cubs Kyle Hendricks.  First pitch from Wrigley Field tomorrow night is at 6:10.

Last night Milwaukee closed out its abbreviated spring training schedule with a win over the White Sox in Chicago, 5-3.  Four Brewers hit home runs including the first of the spring by Christian Yelich.

Star outfielder Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed on a 12-year, $365 million extension that keeps the former American League MVP from reaching free agency this winter, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Combined with the one-year, $27 million contract he’s currently playing out, Betts’ total comes to 13 years and $392 million. The deal tops the previous extension record of $360 million signed by Mike Trout and includes a record $65 million signing bonus.

If you plan on attending an NFL game this season, you will be required to wear a mask.

“For those wondering, yes, it is league-wide: fans at NFL games this season will be required to wear face coverings,” Brian McCarthy, vice president of communications for the NFL, confirmed in a tweet on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Falcons told season ticket holders they will have limited capacity of up to 10,000 to 20,000 people, but other teams, like the New York Jets and New York Giants, will not be allowed to host fans because of the mandate. The NFL’s regular season is scheduled to kick off on Sept.  10th.
