Scott Dixon’s win streak finally ended. Chip Ganassi Racing just kept rolling along. Felix Rosenqvist overtook Pato O’Ward on the next-to-last lap and earned his first career win Sunday in the second half of an IndyCar doubleheader at Road America. Rosenqvist became only the second driver to win an IndyCar event this year after Dixon posted three straight victories to start the year.  This weekend’s doubleheader marked the first time spectators were allowed during this pandemic-delayed season. IndyCar organizers are allowing fans on a case-by-case basis, relying on local and state health guidelines wherever the races are held.  Rosenqvist became the first Swede to win an IndyCar race since Kenny Brack’s 2002 victory at Mexico City. Rosenqvist had two second-place finishes last year. Alexander Rossi, who won at Road America last year, finished third.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers participated in this weekend’s American Century Championship. He hopes to be participating (along with all other NFL players) in this year’s football season.  Asked for his “top of mind” concern as Rodgers enters his 16th season and chases his second Super Bowl win, Rodgers was blunt.

“I think top of mind is are we gonna have a season?” Rodgers said. “I think there’s a lot of things yet to be figured out. We’re hopeful, we’re hopeful that it’s with fans and we can get all the testing procedures down the way the want it for the utmost amount of safety. But I think we’re kind wating for the league and the [NFL Players Association] to figure some things out.”

Rodgers serves as the Packers’ NFLPA representative, so he presumably has had access to most if not all of the discussions among union leadership and between the league and the union.  The NFL and NFLPA are due to confer on Monday, as they try to resolve important lingering issues, like testing procedures and frequency, roster sizes, the use of face shields, preseason games, opt-out rights, and economic issues.

It took three extra holes, but Collin Morikawa won the Workday Charity Open on Sunday afternoon.  Morikawa, after rallying back late in the round, fended off Justin Thomas in an incredible playoff at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio — the first of back-to-back PGA Tour events at Jack Nicklaus’ course.  The win marked Morikawa’s second in his PGA Tour career, and the first of the season for the 23-year-old. He’ll now jump to No. 13 in the World Golf Rankings, his highest point and one spot ahead of Tiger Woods.

NASCAR Cup Series rookie Cole Custer pulled off a daring four-wide pass for the lead on the final lap to earn the victory in Sunday’s Quaker State 400 presented by Walmart at Kentucky Speedway — the first rookie to win in NASCAR’s premier series in four years. Custer, who restarted fifth on a restart with two laps to go, made his way forward — daring to go high on track to the outside of a three-wide challenge for the lead among Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Blaney and Kevin Harvick. The 22-year-old Custer held the high line and was able to get around the three veterans — ultimately holding off the 2017 series champion Truex — a two-time Kentucky winner — by a mere .271 seconds to earn the victory. The Californian’s five laps led Sunday (four early in the race and then the final lap) were the first laps Custer had ever led in the NASCAR Cup Series.  Matt DiBenedetto, Harvick and 2019 Kentucky winner Kurt Busch finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Blaney, rookie Christopher Bell, Aric Almirola, Brad Keselowski and rookie Tyler Reddick rounded out the top 10. It’s the first time in NASCAR history three rookies have finished in the top 10 in a race.
