FDL County Moves Into Phase Two Of Safe Restart Plan
After two weeks of declining numbers of COVID-19 cases and maintaining four other metrics for the Fond du Lac County Safe Restart plan the plan moves to Phase Two. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller announced the phase Monday. She says the County and its businesses will still have to follow best practice guidelines from the CDC and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. There will still be capacity guidelines as well. “It means that we limit capacity within our non-essential businesses such as bars, restaurants or other organizations to 50 percent capacity, again encouraging face mask wearing.” People 65 or older and those who are medically vulnerable should continue to limit travel and remain at home as much as possible. Private indoor gatherings should be limited to 50 people or less with physical distancing. Mueller says if the county can maintain the five metrics safely for two weeks without going backward they will move into Phase Three of the plan.

Three people were transported to hospitals from the scene of a two-vehicle accident at State Highway 91 and County Road E in Winnebago County’s Town of Nepeuskun last Friday afternoon. Sheriff’s officials say 40-year-old Herbert Phelps of Berlin was heading west on State Highway 91 and went around a vehicle that was waiting to turn south onto County Road E and hit a van that had just begun turning north on County Road E. Phelps and a passenger, a 13-year-old Oshkosh boy, were taken to ThedaCare Medical Center in Berlin with minor injuries. Another passenger, also a 13-year-old Oshkosh boy, was flown to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with minor injuries. The other driver, 74-year-old Helmut Emons of Berlin, was not hurt. His passenger 31-year-old Erik Emons of Berlin complained of neck pain, but wasn’t transported. Both drivers were cited for the accident; Phelps for unsafe passing on the right and unreasonable and imprudent speed, and Emons for operating while revoked and failing to have a court-ordered ignition interlock device installed in the vehicle. Alcohol use wasn’t a factor in the accident.
Golfer Shot By Woodchuck Hunter
In golfing lingo it would have been a million to one shot, but unfortunately the errant shot hit an 80-year-old Fond du Lac man that was golfing at The Golf Club at Lomira late Monday morning. He was struck by a bullet that had ricocheted off some trees when a 50-year-old Lomira man was shooting at a woodchuck. The injury wasn’t life-threatening. Theresa EMS took the golfer to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Sheriff Dale Schmidt reminds hunters to know their targets and beyond.
Oshkosh Man Facing Eighth OWI Charge
A 51-year-old Oshkosh man was arrested for his eighth operating while intoxicated offense late last Friday night. A state trooper stopped Brian Bochinksi for an equipment violation on State Highway 49 south of State Highway 21 south of Auroraville in Waushara County. Bochinski subsequently failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for his 8th OWI and operating on a revoked driver’s license. He was also wanted on a warrant from Winnebago County. He’s being held in the Waushara County Jail on a $3,000 cash bond and has an initial court appearance on July 21st.
Not All Hand Sanitizers Pleasant Smelling
Not all hand sanitizers are created equally. Some breweries and distillers began making the hand sanitizers when they were affected by the Governor’s Safer at Home orders. Jeff Puhlmann Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says the normal ingredient usually put into hand sanitizer to create the disinfectant agent was in short supply so those companies made do with what was on hand. “Hand sanitizer are usually made out of Isopropyl alcohol or at least they use to, but when they started not being able to get that they make it out of grain alcohol or ethanol alcohol which is why it smells kind of funky it smells kind of tart.” He says on the other hand it accomplishes being a disinfectant for your hands.
