Active Shooter Situation A False Alarm

Calumet County Sheriff’s officials say an active shooter alarm at the Ariens Company in Brillion Monday afternoon turned out to be a malfunction of the alarm system. Employees were evacuating when Brillion Police arrived. The Sheriff’s Department, its SWAT team, and police departments from Chilton, New Holstein and Reedsville joined them at the scene. A thorough search of the building verified there was no active shooter situation. The malfunction was discovered during an ensuing investigation.

Operation Dry Water This Weekend

The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office, DNR, U.S. Coast Guard and other law enforcement agencies will be participating in Operation Dry Water this weekend. The three-day enforcement campaign runs July 3rd through the 5th and provides heightened enforcement and awareness about the dangers of drinking and boating.  Alcohol can impair a boater’s judgment, balance, vision and reaction time. It can increase fatigue and susceptibility to the effects of cold-water immersion. Sun, wind, noise, vibration and motion – “stressors” common to the boating environment – intensify the effects of alcohol, drugs and some medications. Boating under the influence applies to drugs, as well as alcohol. Penalties for boating under the influence include fines, jail, alcohol/drug assessment and completion of a boating safety course.

The Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce will be posting the route on their website. There is no cost to join the parade.

Legal Protection Needed Against COVID Lawsuits

Congressman Glenn Grothman is hoping Congress will pass a bill this month that will indemnify businesses from being sued by customers or employees that contract the coronavirus. He says many are trying to get back on their feet after stay at home orders and are doing their best to protect employees and customers. It’s been a tough go of it and he says the last thing they need is to be sued by someone that comes down with COVID-19. “A major concern is business right now is worried about getting sued if any employee if any customer whatever gets the COVID.” He says lawsuits from people who contracted the pandemic could destroy commerce in this country. Contact tracing can track the virus back to where someone likely contracted COVID-19.
