Click It Or Ticket Results
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s deputies issued 20 tickets for failing to fasten seat belts during the recent “Click It or Ticket” enforcement effort. In addition officers issued 217 citations and made arrests including 11 arrests for drunken driving. Among the citations were 87 for speeding violations, 44 for operating after revocation or suspension violations, and 9 traffic sign or traffic light violations. Sheriff’s Captain William Tadych says their goal is to encourage motorists to voluntarily comply with traffic laws that help ensure the safety of all travelers. “Click It or Ticket” ran from June 22nd through July 5th.
Watching The Numbers
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says although she’s primarily concerned with the health of county residents she is watching with interest how COVID-19 is impacting others parts of the state and nation. “Absolutely you know we are looking at our numbers locally as a state as well as a nation and a I think whatever happens in the states around us definitely has a possibility and a good possibility to affect what we would then come to see here in Fond du Lac County.” Mueller admits she is concerned when holidays like Memorial Day and the 4th of July come up with more opportunities for people to connect and transmit the virus, but the best they can do is hope people will follow the recommendations they’ve put out about social distancing and wearing face masks.
Concerns About COVID 19 Spread
A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force feels the community and state are fortunate they are not seeing the number of new coronavirus cases that other parts of the country are seeing. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker notes last week Wednesday 46,000 new cases were reported across the U.S. and by yesterday that number had grown to 55,000 new cases. He says where they have high numbers it is being spread around quickly. He feels there is no guarantee the area is immune to that kind of spread. “So here we are in a small part of the world where things are going okay and it is blowing up around us, but there is not a wall or barrier that keeps us from being infected by anybody that comes in.” Puhlmann-Becker says it will be interesting two weeks from now to see the numbers given the traveling and socializing over the 4th of July weekend.
Spang Takes On New Role With Envision Greater FDL
Recently Sarah Spang began a new role with Envision Greater Fond du Lac as Director of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. She says not surprisingly with the pandemic she’s been helping out small businesses applying for loans and financial help for their recovery. “The first thing I kind of ended up doing is helping a lot of our small businesses and entrepreneurs work through grant and loan opportunities related to the pandemic. So I didn’t really ease into this position by any means.” Spang says ironically some businesses had extra time with Safer at Home orders to think about what they are doing and following times of global and national strife is when you see entrepreneurship pick up. To learn more about how Spang can help your business call her at the Envision Greater Fond du Lac office at 920-921-9500.
