TID Could Help Development Of Heidel House

he City of Green Lake is looking at creating a tax incremental district as a tool for redevelopment of the Heidel House property. TID’s are an economic development tool a municipality can use for redevelopment or development of an area. A developer Lighthouse Hotel Development, a division of a Muskego based firm, has expressed interest in developing the property.  A few years ago the same group showed interest in developing the Mapes Hotel in Ripon, but that fell through. It will take several months to develop the TID, which would go into effect at the beginning of 2021.

COVID 19 And Child Care Data

A member of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force says there is data available from child care centers that were open during the first three months of the pandemic that might be worth looking at. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker says as we argue over starting school in the fall it might be worthwhile to look at some of that data, which seems to indicate a very low transmission rate for kids that were in the centers and the adults they had contact with in the home environment. “I’m not a medical professional, but it seems like there’s experiential data about early childhood and younger children basically under 10 or 12 years old and the transmission rate not only between them but to adults it’s rare that it happens and it is of great concern and we should care about this absolutely.” He says over 1,100 YMCA’s were open during the beginning of the pandemic and very few were linked to the coronavirus through contact tracing. He says the data might be valuable in determining at what level it would be responsible to get kids back in school.

Chamber Job Brings Beck Back To The Area

Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lisa Beck grew up in the Berlin, Green Lake, Ripon Area but took a roundabout way of getting back to it. She was a chamber director in the De Forest –Windsor area, spent time with the Portage Chamber of Commerce, the Wisconsin Dells Visitors Bureau and for four years helped produce the Discover Wisconsin TV Show. She says it took getting married to have her evaluate her next step. “I’m am getting married so I took a career change so we moved back to this area where I grew up so that kind of is what led me here to the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.” Some of the things she’s helping with are the summer concert series, Harvest Fest in the fall, and she would like to do some networking and educational programs for Chamber members.

Ripon Community Food Pantry COVID Precautions

The Executive Director of Traded Treasures Thrift Shop and the Community Food Pantry in Ripon says operating the food pantry is a little different during the pandemic. Amy Pollesch says they have a good team of volunteers who work hard that they want to keep safe during the outbreak along with those using the pantry. So they are operating through car-side deliveries. “Right now with COVID the state is requesting that we continue to do car-side deliveries. When we do not have COVID restrictions what families do is they walk into the pantry and walk through just like it is a grocery store. We load up their bags of food and we help deliver them to the cars.” She says they are pre-bagging groceries during the pandemic putting enough food including bread, meat, ready-to-make meals, fresh fruit and vegetables,  dairy, and more into them to last from seven to nine days. Food pick up at the pantry is from 10 am to 3 pm Mondays.
