Ripon High School Graduation Overcomes COVID Challenges

22 May 2020 News

The Ripon High School Class of 2020 will have a commencement ceremony this weekend albeit it like everything affected by the global pandemic a little unconventional. There will be a vehicle caravan tomorrow morning at 11:05, while ceremonies are broadcast over 93.1 FM and AM 1600 WRPN. District Superintendent Mary Whitrock says seniors were polled and eventually they would like some type of in-person ceremony after the COVID-19 threat lessens. “As soon as things are cleared and we get the go ahead at the school district that we could have that volume of individuals together or even just graduates and immediate family we will look to do something in person so they can surely have the closure to their sterling career.” Whitrock says diplomas will be passed out during the caravan. On the ceremony broadcast over 93.1 and 1600 senior Amelia Taylor will be the Master of Ceremonies. There will be speeches from seniors Nick Peterman, Theo Rauch and Jose Munoz, teacher Paul Weigel, Principal Randy Hatlen, and Whitrock, and musical performances from the Ripon High School Band and Varsity Choir. Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Bill Kinziger will read the graduates names.
