Preliminary Hearing Delayed For Chicago Man
More time has been given for a 30-year-old Chicago, Illinois man to find a lawyer for charges he’s facing in Fond du Lac County court. Demitirious Manning was supposed to have a preliminary hearing last Friday, but the time limit for that was waived so he could get court-appointed counsel. He is charged with felon in possession of a firearm, intentionally pointing a firearm at a person, operating a firearm while intoxicated, and disorderly conduct with the use of a dangerous weapon for allegedly pointing a handgun at a man in Fond du Lac. FDL County Stepping Up Testing For COVID 19
Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says as mentioned by Governor Evers they would like to step up testing for COVID-19. She says they will be doing routine testing at skilled nursing facilities and the County Jail which had two inmates test positive last week. Mueller says if you show any symptoms of the pandemic call the toll-free number they have for arranging free-testing. “Mild symptoms, even one symptom if you just have one symptom we do ask that you please call the ‘844’ number and again that is 844-225-0147.” She says a screening will be done and if it is felt you should be tested it will happen at their community testing site. The testing will cost you nothing. The county got some help last weekend when the National Guard collected 50 specimens during testing in Fairwater Saturday.
Respect Stores Wishes
The executive director of the Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce asks residents to continue to support businesses during the pandemic by respecting the measures they are taking to assure both customer and staff safety. Jason Mansmith says it will take some businesses longer to adjust and fully reopen and they may require you to take steps for everyone’s safety. “Customers and people that are coming on in just be really super cognizant to what the store is asking you and don’t really bulk back if the store wants you to wear a mask or it is optional to wear a mask, just respect that.” He says the reopening is a good thing and people want to see other people in those businesses and the stores and shops are really good at providing customer service so give them the chance to shine.
Phase In Of Services At Ripon Senior Activity Center
Ripon Senior Activity Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says it will take time to reopen the center in the wake of Safer at Home orders. Johnson says she sat in on a video conference for Wisconsin Association of Senior Center members last week. She says other centers around the state will be reopening anytime from June to sometime in the fall. She says the transition in Ripon will be gradual. One of the things they will bring back is appointments for their foot clinic. “In Ripon here I have asked and been given permission to bring our foot clinic RN back because that is essential.” She says when they do reopen their exercise classes will be smaller, but more often to allow for social distancing. Johnson also notes that their senior volunteers will also be phased back in slowly.
