A two-week jury trial has been scheduled in Fond du Lac County court for two 25-year-old Fond du Lac men believed to be responsible for the shooting death of a Fond du Lac man. The trial for Devon Neuman and Jesse Schultz is scheduled to begin on October 19th. Both are charged with first degree intentional homicide and armed robbery for the murder of Logan Foster. He was shot to death in the parking lot across from the Press Box Tavern in Fond du Lac early the morning of September 23rd of 2017. Foster was robbed of several hundred dollars during the shooting. Congressman Grothman On HEROES Act
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he had some issues with the $3 trillion COVID-19 relief bill that passed the Democratic-controlled house by a 208 to 199 vote margin last week. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah didn’t like the proposal to include illegal immigrants in the second round of $1,200 stimulus checks that will be sent out. “It continued on the path of encouraging illegal immigration in this country. They specifically wanted the new $1,200 payments to go not only to American citizens, but all people here illegally and they wanted retroactively if you were here illegally and missed the first round of payments.” He also didn’t like the idea of extending unemployment benefits for another six months. President Trump said he won’t support the so-called HEROES Act.
All In For Agriculture Relief Announced
Wednesday Governor Evers announced the Wisconsin Farm Support Program, a $50 million investment to provide direct payments to state farmers in support of the agricultural sector during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a $15 million Food Security Initiative to combat hunger. Eligible farmers will be asked to apply for the aid through the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Farm support payments could begin arriving as early as next month. The Food Security Initiative will supply grants to help food banks, pantries, and other nonprofit organizations purchase, process, and/or store state agricultural products for distribution to local consumers in need.
Keeping Safe From COVID 19
A member of two area COVID 19 Task Forces says the striking down of the extension of the Governor’s Safer at Home order last week brought both good and bad news. Jeff Puhlmann-Becker of the Ripon Community COVID-19 Task Force and Reopen Fond du Lac County Task Force says it is good news because it reopens the state to business, but it could be bad news if it isn’t handled safely. “We need to be methodical and careful about this that it isn’t a matter of opening up the faucet full blast. That we still need to have procedures in place and be cautious to make sure we keep our employees and our guests, clients and customers safe and our business safe.” He says we did have to give up some of our freedoms and liberties to prevent the spread of the pandemic, but they could be taken away again if we don’t maintain the precautions that were put in place to keep us safe.
Senior Meals Program
Ripon Senior Activity Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says they are continuing the option of offering senior citizens meals through the County nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic. She says Russell Manor and Willowbrook in Ripon are not doing congregate meals yet. She says if you want a meal during weekdays call a day ahead of time and they will arrange to get you a meal through the county’s program. “For those who don’t know it is a grab-and-go system. You call by 11:30 a.m. the weekday before, I fax paperwork off to the county and we get our meals delivered. You just drive up to the Senior Center and stay in your car.” There is a $3 suggested donation. Meals can be picked up for you by a friend or neighbor. The Senior Center phone number is 920-748-6225.
