Iverson Runs For Mayor Of Ripon

2 April 2020 News

Ripon Alderman Doug Iverson feels he’s prepared to be the City’s next Mayor. Iverson is an attorney by trade with a small practice. He’s served on the City Council for four years at the end of his current term later this month. He has also been on the Library Board, the Ripon Area Fire District Board, and the City’s Public Works Committee. He feels the biggest challenge is finding revenue to continue the services the city provides to residents. He came up with the proposal for a recycling fee, which he says will allow the city to use money it set aside for that for other expenses and projects. “That’s not something I wanted to do, but I’m looking down the road at our budget the revenue is shrinking and declining mostly because of the state’s decision to cut back on their shared-revenue and do something else with the money.” Iverson says the city has a lot on its plate right now with the fate of the former American House up in the air, funding decisions for street projects and a possible Senior Center and Trail Head facility at Murray Park, and development on the west end of town. He says he’d like to be part of those decisions. The election is next Tuesday.
