The Packers started Day 3 of the NFL Draft by drafting Minnesota ILB Kamal Martin in the fifth round (#175 overall).  Next up, GM Brian Gutekunst selected Michigan guard Jon Runyan in the sixth round (#192 overall). The Packers then selected Oregon C Jake Hanson and Indiana OT Simon Stepaniak as the 208th and 209th overall picks, respectively, to end the sixth round. In the seventh round, the Packers selected TCU S Vernon Scott as the 236th overall pick, and concluded the draft by selecting Miami DE Jonathan Garvin at #242 overall.

Packers 2020 picks:
1st round – QB Jordan Love (Utah State)
2nd round – RB A.J. Dillon (Boston College)
3rd round – TE Josiah Deguara (Cincinnati)
4th round – no picks
5th round – ILB Kamal Martin (Minnesota)
6th round – OG Jon Runyan (Michigan)
6th round – C Jake Hanson (Oregon)
6th round – OT Simon Stepaniak (Indiana)
7th round – S Vernon Scott (TCU)

The Packers did not choose a wide receiver, which was said to be one of the deepest receiver classes in decades. However, Gutekunst was not falling for the hype.

“We thought it was really strong at the top,” Gutekunst said on Saturday night. “I don’t know, as we went through the middle and end, we probably felt it wasn’t as strong as maybe others did.”

Former Ashwaubenon HS quarterback James Morgan was drafted by the New York Jets in the 4th round on Saturday.  Morgan becomes the first Green Bay-grown QB to be drafted since Bud Keyes in 1988. He went to Bowling Green at first, but ended up transferring to Florida International after a coaching change.  Morgan feels his arm strength and anticipation will translate well to the NFL game.

Meanwhile, Badger linebacker Zack Baun, via a trade with the Cleveland Browns, was drafted in the third round, (#74 overall), by the New Orleans Saints.

Ryan Newman said he will be ready to race when NASCAR resumes competition, which could be as early as May 17.  Newman suffered a head injury in the season-opening race at Daytona International Speedway. The Indiana native spent less than 48 hours in the hospital before walking out holding hands with his two daughters. Ross Chastain drove the No. 6 Ford in place of Newman for three races before the NASCAR season was suspended March 13 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Speaking before NASCAR’s iRacing event Sunday, Newman said on Fox Sports that he will be ready to race when NASCAR calls drivers back to the track.

The Chicago Bulls are hiring Marc Eversley as the franchise’s general manager, league sources told ESPN. Eversley, the senior vice president of player personnel with the Philadelphia 76ers,  agreed to a deal late Sunday night to join new executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas with Chicago.  Eversley becomes the first black GM in Bulls history.
