Smoke Detector Placement Important

Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says placement of smoke detectors in your home is a key to your safety in the event of a fire. He says experts recommend a specific placement. “They recommend one smoke alarm in every bedroom, one smoke alarm in the hallway outside the bedroom so within six feet of the sleeping quarters and then one on every level of the house.” DeMaa says a campaign launched a couple of years ago was entitled “Close Before You Doze.” It recommends closing the door to bedrooms when you go to sleep to keep out toxic smoke if there is a fire and the detectors will let you know if there is a fire outside your bedroom. He points out closing the door might just buy you enough time to be rescued when firefighters arrive.

Acceptable forms of identification include driver’s license, state ID, U.S. Military ID, or passport. Other forms of identification can be presented to school staff if government ID is not available. Staff will then put that information into the system. A visitors badge will be issued for that visit. The process will only be used during regular school hours.
