Green Lake County Law Enforcement United In COVID 19 Effort
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic all Green Lake County Law Enforcement Agencies have come together with a unified response plan. There will be slight changes to in-person service in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Officers will be trying to limit in-person contact whenever possible. Officials are also warning there are a number of scams regarding COVID-19 financial assistance and census activities. They caution you should never give out personal information or personal numbers of account information.
Berlin Job Center Closed
In light of continuing concerns over COVID-19 the Berlin Job Center at 237 Broadway Street in Berlin has been closed. Officials with the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board say the center will be closed for the foreseeable future, with no re-opening date set. Those who need to file for unemployment insurance of seek jobs are asked to visit jobcenterofwisconsin.com.
Grothman Requested Small Business Assistance
Congressman Glenn Grothman led a bipartisan letter effort with several colleagues in the Wisconsin delegation expressing support for Governor Evers’ request for Small Business Administration Economic Injury Disaster Loans. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah told us Friday that an economic stimulus bill will help Americans, but business shuttered or limited due to COVID-19 will also need some real help. “The problem isn’t lack of money. The people who are hurting are the people who should get the money not just anybody the problem is people are afraid. And in a lot of states including Wisconsin here they just won’t allow you to go to the bars and restaurants.” The U.S. Small Business Administration approved the loans over the weekend.
Decision Forthcoming About Wine Walk
Another victim of the COVID-19 pandemic is all the fund raisers and special events it has cancelled as people are limited by social distancing. One of the more popular events in the Ripon area is the Spring Wine Walk. It is slated for Friday, April 17th. Ripon Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Mansmith says no decisions have been made about that yet. “We have not made a decision quite yet on that we have been meeting on that and talking about things so I guess stay tuned for details on that forthcoming.” More than 500 people usually attend the event. Meanwhile Mansmith says the Chamber office is closed to the public, but employees are still working either remotely or still in the office at times. He says if people have questions they can still call with them.
ADVOCAP Continuing Senior Home Delivery Meals Program During Outbreak
Despite the pandemic ADVOCAP is continuing its home-delivery program for seniors in Winnebago County. They provide the meals in Omro, Pickett, Winneconne, Oshkosh and the Neenah-Menasha area. Lori Fernandez is the director of ADVOCAP’s Food and Nutrition program. She says they are practicing social distancing, but can deliver the meals. “So if they live in an apartment complex we will take them up to them there. So people are still getting fed we are really happy about that and people are very committed. I tell you we have people calling to volunteer and people are working really hard to make sure people get the basic necessities of life.” They are also surveying those they provide home deliveries to making sure they have what they need. Fernandez says a lot of people were caught off guard by the hoarding of groceries and didn’t get out to shop when that was going on. She urges those who would like to know more about the home deliveries to call their Neenah Office at 920-725-2791 and don’t be ashamed to ask for help.
Ripon Common Council Takes Up Emergency Declaration
The Ripon Common Council will be asked tonight to approve an emergency declaration for the COVID-19 outbreak. A number of cities and counties have already done so including Fond du Lac County. There is a plan, procedures, and restrictions that go along with that declaration. Other business will include initiating the discontinuance of Akin Street and approving the updating of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Council meets at 7 pm at the Ripon City Hall.
COVID 19 Announcements
Waupaca County is keeping its courthouse open with modified operations, but due to the new coronavirus is asking the public to interact with its departments by calling or emailing them.
The Compost Center for the City of Ripon located on Berlin Road will be closed for two weeks. The tentative plan is to reopen it on April 4th.
State Representative Joan Ballweg has cancelled her spring listening sessions due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Instead she will hold three e-listening sessions via Facebook Live on her Facebook page. They will be held from 1 to 2 pm on Friday. Also from 10 to 11 am and 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 31st. Questions can be submitted through her website, a form is available.
