(Washington County Sheriff’s photo, victim’s truck)
Washington County Sheriff’s officials say a Good Samaritan who stopped to help a motorist on Interstate 41 at the State Highway 167/Holy Hill off-ramp Saturday had his Dodge Ram pickup truck carjacked for his kind gesture. A man carrying a gas can was standing behind a 1970’s 4-door Buick LeSabre. When the victim, a 57-year-old Muskegon Michigan man with ties to Washington County, stopped to help the man carrying the gas can pulled a handgun and told the victim to get out of the truck. The truck was taken and someone in the Buick drove it away. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 262-335-4420.

Congressman Grothman Briefed On COVID-19
Congressman Glenn Grothman says he got briefed last Friday morning on America’s response to COVID-19 or the new coronavirus. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says if China is sending workers back to work maybe the tide is being turned on the virus. “It does seem like China is beginning to send people back to work, I don’t know if you can trust China but if they are sending people back to work it kind of indicates where they feel they are in fighting this virus.” As for the panic among investors Grothman says President Trump will be making a trip to New York to assure them we have things under control. Grothman says every appropriate Government agency is fully involved in the battle against the virus. Grothman also feels the U.S. will take a lead in developing drugs that could do something about the virus.
RAFD New Airpacks Now In Service
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says the purchase of new airpacks for their firefighters isn’t just improving their safety. They are in use now. “We did take delivery of our new airpacks recently so we got those in service and we are starting to use them and within three days we had a house fire. I don’t want to say it was nice to have a house fire, but it was nice that the guys got to use them right away and they really like them.” The 32 new pair of packs cost about $182,000, but replaced packs that were in use for 18 years with a life expectancy of 15 years. The cost was included in the department’s capital improvement budget requests for the year. Saul says it has been a big morale booster and provides safety that is second to none.
FDL County Highway Department New Facility Dedicated
Fond du Lac County held an open house and dedication for its new highway department facility in Fond du Lac over the weekend. County Executive Al Buechel says the project is most expensive ever undertaken by the county. He says they needed the bigger facility to house the larger trucks and snowplows they use on the roads these days. The facility actually has enough room for expansion, which Buechel says they probably won’t need for years to come. “We’ve got some room to spare although we anticipate four lanes from 23 to Sheboygan which is probably going to require another route which then means another truck.” Excel Engineering was the architect for the project and C.D. Smith Construction the construction manager. The nearly $26 million project includes a 135,000 square foot highway garage complex, a large cold storage facility, a separate garage for Senior Services vehicles, and a Sheriff’s Office impound garage. The grounds also house additional county structures.
Proposal To Use Portion Of Old Dodge County Jail Hits A Snag
Dodge County supervisors recently voted down a proposal to borrow internally to convert the old jail into storage area. That facility was closed last year, but the building committee determined there was a need to repurpose the basement of the 1977 section of the building for storage space for the sheriff’s office. The original 1959 portion of the building was demolished. Those who voted against the project were concerned about the cost, which came in $600,000 over budget. The matter will be referred back to the building committee.
