Drowning Reported In Waupaca County
The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office says a 30-year-old Weyauwega man trying to rescue a dog that fell through the ice on a pond drowned. The incident happened on private property shortly before 4 pm Wednesday afternoon in the Town of Weyauwega. The dog was able to get out of the pond on its own before rescuers arrived. Members of the Weyauwega Fire Department found the man in the pond and got him to shore where they tried to resuscitate him. He died at ThedaCare Medical Center in Waupaca.
Slow No Wake Order Issued For Fox River In Berlin
The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office has issued a “Slow-No-Wake” order for the Fox River in Berlin. Chief Deputy Matt Vande Kolk says the river is above the flood stage and notices about the order are being posted in the City of Berlin. He says wakes of great force and height, often caused by motor boating, increase shore line erosion in areas of public and private property. Boaters are asked to reduce their wake accordingly. Violators can be reported to the Sheriff’s Office if possible with the registration number, type of boat, color, number of occupants and direction of travel.
FDL Stabbing Suspect Ordered To Stand Trial
The 39-year-old Fond du Lac man allegedly involved in a stabbing incident in Fond du Lac last month was recently bound over for trial. Adam Mosser waived his preliminary hearing in Fond du Lac County court last week. He was arraigned during the same hearing and stood mute to the charges so not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf. According to police on February 10th a 34-year-old woman called authorities saying Mosser was threatening her with a knife and fighting with another man. Both victims managed to escape from the residence in the 100 block of St. Marys Avenue. Mosser is charged with false imprisonment, battery, and two counts of disorderly conduct one of them with a dangerous weapon.
FDL County Emergency Operations Center Active During Pandemic
Normally Fond du Lac County activates its Emergency Operations Center or EOC when there is some type of natural disaster such as a flood, but it is activated for the global pandemic. County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says while people are working in the EOC they are still maintaining their social distance. “We do have some staff that are coming into the EOC so we can plan and coordinate. We are doing a lot of our meetings through teleconference and those that are coming into the room we are in a very large room and we have different work stations set up.” Hicken says they are basically supporting the County Health Department and ensuring all of the government entities have what they need and are keeping communications going with all of their responders.
Waushara County Staff Being Kept Up To Date On Pandemic
In addition to keeping the public informed about COVID-19 the Waushara County Public Health Officer is also keeping various county departments informed. Patti Wohlfeil says they put together a small taskforce and she’s been sending out emails. “And so my very first email was one of those where people probably looked at it and said “I’m not going to read all of this,” because I put in all the links to all of the places you want to know everything I could think of that they wanted to know and I said from now on I’m not going to give you this much information. I’ll give you some every day and feel free to ask me.” She says in addition the task force recorded a video all the employees could watch. She says as the staff upped their cleaning in the area so too did their maintenance crews for county facilities cleaning and disinfecting more surfaces.
Overweight Trucks Permits Extended
Under the Governor’s orders the state’s Department of Transportation Thursday announced a two-week extension for overweight permits that allow truckers to supply grocery stores impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 489 fleet permits already issued, which cover more than 15,000 trucks, no action is required for the automatic extension. The permits had been set to expire Saturday. New applications for the permits can be made through a DOT webpage.
COVID 19 Cancellations Continue
The COVID-19 outbreak continues to impact seasonal events delaying some and cancelling others. In Ripon the Spring Wine Walk scheduled for Friday, April 17th has been rescheduled as a Summer Wine Walk on Friday, August 7th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The popular event usually draws over 550 participants.
In Fond du Lac Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Lemonade Day has been postponed. The event teaches school kids using unique marketing techniques and booths selling lemonade about conducting business. Lemonade Day was scheduled for May 2nd. A new date will be announced as soon as possible.
