First COVID 19 Deaths Reported In Wisconsin
Wisconsin has its first two deaths due to COVID-19. Governor Tony Evers and the state’s Department of Health Services last evening confirmed a man in his 50s in Fond du Lac County and a man in his 90s in Ozaukee County were victims of the new coronavirus. The number of people testing positive for the pandemic in the state grew by 49 cases yesterday to a total of 155 in 21 of the state’s 72 counties. Fond du Lac County has 14 cases and Winnebago County 5.
COVID 19 At Waupun Correctional
According to media reports an employee or client connected to Waupun Correctional Institution has tested positive for COVID-19. As a precaution inmates at the state prison are being quarantined and medical personnel were sent home. Eighteen inmates and 11 health care workers had exposure to that person. An investigation into how that came about is continuing.
More Cancellations And Restrictions Announced
Necessary cautions to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus have led to some more cancellations and restrictions. The DOT’s Division of Motor Vehicles has closed its offices today for a one-day deep cleaning effort. The Department of Transportation is also temporarily suspending all public involvement meetings and open houses for design and construction projects.
ThedaCare has decided to defer all-elective non-urgent care at its seven hospitals. Surgery and procedures that can be postponed without undue risk to the patient or the patient’s medical condition will be rescheduled approximately 6 weeks out. Procedures include all non-urgent imaging, cardiac catheterizations and interventional radiology. Urgent and emergent care needs will continue to be treated.
Fond du Lac County’s Circuit Court system is adapting some temporary guidelines during the pandemic. All contested matters requiring in-person appearances, including jury trials are suspended. Clerks will schedule the proceedings as the court calendar permits. Any hearing that can be done by phone will proceed as scheduled. Small claims appearances in intake court are suspended. Measures will be in place until April 17. Weddings in a court room will still be permitted at a judge’s discretion with no more than four people in the court room.
The Dodge County District Attorney’s Office is asking that any person who has business with their office call 920-386-3610 before coming to the office to determine if their business can be conducted on the phone or electronically. Anyone suffering cold or flu-like symptoms should not enter the District Attorney’s Office Lobby in Juneau.
Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac is moving up its summer production slow down due to the new coronavirus. The company says it is suspending production at a number of its facilities for Mercury and its parent company the Brunswick Corporation starting next Monday. The slowdown is expected to last two to three weeks. Some of Mercury’s plant in Fond du Lac will continue to run during the slowdown.
