COVID 19 Cancelling Events

Governor Tony Evers declared a public health emergency yesterday in the state. He directed the state’s Department of Health Services to use all the resources necessary to respond to and contain the outbreak. In his announcement he noted 37 state residents were returning to Wisconsin from the Princess Cruise Ship who may have been exposed and need to be monitored in self quarantine for 14 days.
Meanwhile the Department of Health Services says two more people in Dane County have tested positive for COVID-19. That brings the total number of cases in the state to eight, including two in Fond du Lac County.
The outbreak is having an impact on events in the area. The Ripon FFA Toy Show at Ripon High School this weekend has been cancelled. The Ripon Senior Activity Center has cancelled its potluck dinner scheduled for today. Beginning next Monday the Oshkosh Area School District has cancelled all after-school and evening activities. Congressman Glenn Grothman has cancelled his town hall meetings scheduled next Tuesday in Poynette, Wyocena, and Friesland. The state’s Department of Veterans Affairs has stopped all medically unnecessary visits to members who reside at veterans homes in Chippewa Falls, King-near Waupaca, and Union Grove.
The WIAA has cancelled the remainder of the boys and girls high school basketball season including playoffs and state championship tourneys.
