Sturgeon Spearing Report Day 13

21 February 2020 Sports

DNR Senior Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs writes:

Just three days remain in the 2020 sturgeon spear fishery on the Winnebago System. Surprisingly, the harvest from Lake Winnebago (28 fish) was higher than I would have expected and the Upriver Lakes harvest (1 fish) was less than I expected. Today’s harvest brings the season total to 347 fish harvested from Lake Winnebago and 277 from the Upriver Lakes. The busiest stations today were Jim and Linda’s (14 fish registered) and Stockbridge Harbor (9 fish registered). Payne’s Point and Wendt’s had a combined 5 fish registered.  The lone fish taken from the Upriver Lakes today was registered at Indian Point.  A breakdown of this season’s registration numbers is available through the following link:

Day 13 Harvest Report.pdf

The largest fish of the day was 112.0 pounds, 75.5 inches and registered at Jim and Linda’s by John Pickart. This particular registration station has registered almost twice as many fish as any other station this season, but John’s fish was the first fish to tip the scales at more than 100 pounds.

Registration Station Openings:

For tomorrow, February 21, 2020, successful spearers can register their fish at Payne’s Point, Stockbridge Harbor, Jim and Linda’s, or Wendt’s on Lake Winnebago and either Critter’s or Indian Point on the Upriver Lakes.  Our registration stations at Waverly Beach, Quinney, Jerry’s Bar, and Boom Bay will be closed.
