Two Ripon Police officers recently shared the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award for 2019 from the Fond du Lac County Law Enforcement Executive Association for their work on putting a sexual predator behind bars. Officer Kaylee Haring and Sergeant Lindsey Michels shared the award with Assistant District Attorney Kristen Menzel and a Fond du Lac Police Officer for an investigation that put a Ripon man who was sexually assaulting children in prison for a long time. Michels says Haring did the lion’s share of the investigation and because of it the suspect pled out and was sentenced sparing the victims from having to testify during a trial. She says the award means a lot to them, but it takes teamwork every day. “Each of our officers, every day work very hard at all these cases that we take on and it means a lot to me that we were nominated and received that award.” They were nominated by Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner. Pastor Paul Ethington was also honored. The President’s Award was given to all of the chaplains that work with law enforcement agencies in the county. Haring and Michels were also commended by the Ripon Common Council during their meeting Monday night.
