Khris Middleton scored Milwaukee’s final nine points and the the Bucks beat Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards 137-134 in overtime on Monday night. Middleton, who finished with 40 points, hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 30.2 seconds left to give the Bucks a 135-132 lead. After Beal made two free throws, Middleton was fouled with 7.8 seconds left and made both attempts from the line to make it 137-134 and Troy Brown, Jr.’s 3-pointer rimmed out at the buzzer. Beal, one night after scoring a then-career high 53 points in a loss at Chicago, topped it with a 55-point effort that included 22 points in the fourth quarter and seven more in overtime.Shabazz Napier added a season-high 27 points for Washington.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 22 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out with 1:33 remaining in regulation for Milwaukee. Middleton had a career-high 51-points in the teams’ first meeting, a 151-131 Milwaukee win on Jan. 28. The Bucks continue their road trip tonight at Toronto against the Raptors.

The G League has suspended Wisconsin Herd head coach Chase Buford for two games without pay following his postgame comments on Sunday, following a home loss to Grand Rapids.  That suspension begins Tuesday night when the Herd host Delaware.

The Herd blew a 21-point lead in a loss to the Grand Rapids Drive, and Buford was ejected late in the fourth quarter after receiving his second technical foul. In the  postgame interview,  Buford went off on the officiating, calling out the referee by name — and then calling him a “(expletive) clown.”

Buford said:
“The officiating definitely went right for Grand Rapids. That was as unprofessional as an officiating performance — I hope you tweet this out and tag the league because that was embarrassing. Matt Rafferty is a (expletive) clown. That being said, we have to be so much better at the end of games. We can’t blow a 21-point lead with 12 minutes to go however bad and biased and unfair and illegal and cheating the referees are, we have to be better closing games. And so, that’s the way I feel.”

Sunday night Buford issued a written apology to referee Matt Rafferty.

“I deeply apologize for my behavior following our game against Grand Rapids today. It was unprofessional and I’m embarrassed,” Buford statement said. “My sincere apologies to referee Matt Rafferty, the Grand Rapids Drive, their fans and the Herd organization.”

“It’s a tough learning experience as a first-year head coach and I am truly sorry, and will grow from this.”

After a one-year hiatus, Ripon College’s Men’s Basketball team is making a

return to the Midwest Conference Tournament this season. Owners of the

league’s longest winning streak (nine games), the Red Hawks are the number

two seed in this year’s Tournament, and are the only MWC team to defeat

top-seeded St. Norbert College this season, doing so on SNC’s home court

(by 18 points).  Ripon’s MWC semifinal game will begin Friday at 7 p.m. against Lake Forest in De Pere. The winner will play the winner of Friday’s St. Norbert/Cornell semifinal on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the MWC Tournament Championship game.

Ripon freshman Alison Leslie has been named the Midwest Conference Women’s Basketball Performer of the Week after helping Ripon win both of their games last week, en route to clinching the team’s third consecutive MWC Championship.

As the Red Hawks prepare to host the MWC Tournament for the third consecutive year, Leslie leads all of Division-III in 3-point percentage (.500), while ranking 24th in D-III in 3-pointers made per game with a conference-best 2.8. She also ranks second in the MWC and 67th in the nation in field goal percentage (.506).

The Brewers played two split-squad games on Monday, edging the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 and pounding the Oakland A’s, 14-4.  Milwaukee hosts the Seattle Mariners today at Maryvale.
