Million Powerball Winner In FDL
It wasn’t on the famous Miracle Mile, but a store with a history of selling big lottery ticket winners in Fond du Lac sold a $1 million Powerball winner for last Saturday’s Powerball drawing. Hansen’s BP on West Johnson Street sold the ticket. Storeowner Julie Hansen says it is their first Powerball winner, but they are no strangers to selling winning tickets. They sold a $350,000 SuperCash ticket in June of 2017 and have had three big Badger 5 winners since 2010. The Powerball winner has not yet to come forward to claim that $1 million prize.
Sex Offender Facing Charges In Dodge County
Waupun Police took a 24-year-old sex offender into custody on a probation hold Monday night, but the Montello man will face other charges for allegedly possessing methamphetamine and obstructing officers. He was stopped for speeding on West Main Street at South State Street and a search turned up a scale and baggie of suspected meth. He also lied to officers about who he was and had a 17-year-old girl in the vehicle with him, which violates conditions of his registration as a sex offender. He was taken to the Dodge County Jail and charges were referred to the District Attorney’s Office.
Too Many Ice Cream Drinks
(Washington County Sheriff’s photo)
Maybe it was one too many Pink Squirrels or Brandy Alexanders, but a Washington County man likely had more than that when he was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies last weekend for his 6th OWI. He was passed out in his car on the side of the road outside his residence when deputies checked on him. The 58-year-old Town of Jackson man said he had just gotten back from a local restaurant where he had purchased ice cream drinks and had fallen asleep in his car. Officers found two bottles of Vodka on the passenger seat and a breath test put his level of intoxication over four times the legal limit. He was out on bond for his 5th OWI at the time.
Census Important
State Representative Joan Ballweg recently visited the Green Lake and Ripon areas promoting the U.S. Census along the way. The state lawmaker from Markesan says it’s important for Wisconsin residents participate in the census to get an accurate account of how many people are living in the state, which helps determine political boundaries and federal funding based on the census. “If we don’t have the numbers we don’t have the correct representation for both our Wisconsin Legislature and for Congress and there is over $900 billion that is dispersed based on the population in our particular area.” The census begins on March 12th and people will have the option of taking it on line or by phone. If they don’t there will be follow-up through the mail and eventually census takers will visit those who didn’t respond.
Sturgeon Season Recap
DNR Senior Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs says the recently completed sturgeon spearing season was comparable to last year’s in terms of harvest numbers. He notes 491 sturgeon were speared on Lake Winnebago and 320 on the Upriver Lakes compared to 478 on the big lake and 307 on the smaller lakes in 2019. The DNR has been keeping harvest numbers for Lake Winnebago for 80 years and 14 years or when the lottery system started for the Upriver Lakes. With that in mind this year’s numbers for Lake Winnebago ranked 51st all-time and 3rd highest for the Upriver Lakes.
