The Oshkosh teen accused of trying to kill an Oshkosh West School Resource Officer has requested a new judge. Seventeen-year-old Grant Fuhrman was supposed to be arraigned today in Winnebago County court, but his lawyer filed the request for substitution yesterday which he has the right to do. Fuhrman allegedly used a barbecue fork to stab Officer Michael Wissink several times in the neck in Wissink’s office at the school on December 3rd. According to the criminal complaint Wissink fired his gun three times as Fuhrman tried to wrestle it away from him. Fuhrman was struck once and Wissink shot himself in the arm. Tax Cut Proposal

The state legislature is expected to take up a Republican proposal to use a projected increase in the state revenues to provide nearly $250 million in reductions to the personal income tax. They could take up that proposal as early as tomorrow in the State Assembly. State Representative Joan Ballweg says the state is anticipating an increase in revenues of nearly $818 million over the next two years. They would like to cut personal property taxes for manufacturers by $45 million and lower the state debt by $100 million. Ballweg says the main emphasis would be to put more money in the pockets of low and middle-income taxpayers. “So were putting about $250 million of that money into reducing the two lower ends of the standard deduction for everyone.” The tax cuts would start in the 2020 tax year. The average income tax filer would see an additional tax reduction of $105.

Protecting Those With Preexisting Conditions

Critics say President Trump lied during his State of the Union Address when he pledged to protect patients with preexisting conditions. Those skeptics base their criticism on Trump’s efforts to undercut the Affordable Care Act, which provides those protections. Congressman Glenn Grothman feels the president was sincere about protecting those with preexisting conditions. “He said when we eventually come up with a health care plan to replace Obamacare he would make sure we protect preexisting conditions and that is a promise that Donald Trump has always had.”
