Three Year Old Girl Murdered In Appleton

Outagamie County authorities have charged a 25-year-old man in the death of a 3-year-old Appleton girl and for allegedly injuring a pregnant 27-year-old woman. Demetrius Williams is charged with first degree intentional homicide and attempted homicide. He will make his initial court appearance on those charges Monday. Police say both victims suffered injuries from an edged weapon during an incident at an apartment building in the 500 block of North Kensington Drive Wednesday night. An autopsy will be performed on the little girl this morning in Milwaukee. The woman and her unborn child are in stable condition at a hospital following surgery. Police say Williams had been dating the woman.

School Bus Accident Involved In Waupaca County Traffic Accident

Waupaca County Sheriff’s officials say a driver was injured after colliding with a school bus Wednesday afternoon. It happened about 4:30 pm at the intersection of Highway 45 and County Road W, in the Town of Caledonia. A car collided with a New London school bus. No one was hurt on the bus. The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Busy Election Year

Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says it will be a full election this coming fall. Candidates for state, federal and county offices can begin circulating nomination papers for those offices on April 15th.  Freiberg will be one of those circulating papers as she runs for reelection. “Now this year for the county officials it will be county clerk, country treasurer, and register of deeds. On the state level we have our State Senate. This year is the even-numbered Senators (Districts) that will be on the ballot.” There will also be elections for State Assembly, Congressional seats and U.S. President. The primary for those offices will be in August and the General Election including voting for President will be in November. The Presidential Preference Primary in Wisconsin is in April.

Flood Storage Suggestion

Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says if you’re making plans for the possibility of flooding this spring make sure you find a water tight container for those important documents and photos. Hicken says some people store things in their basement, which is more likely to flood than the rest of your home. She recommends elevating things off the floor and having water tight containers for documents and other items that might get damaged. “If you have important documents or important photo albums and things that are completely irreplaceable put those in containers.”  She says totes and water tight containers are usually available at hardware stores and big box retailers and are not that expensive. Hicken says the saddest thing she saw last March after flooding in the county were all the flood-damaged personal items people were putting out on street terraces for trash collection.

RAFD Chicken BBQ This Sunday

The Ripon Area Fire District’s annual Chicken BBQ is coming up this Sunday and tickets are going fast. Fire Chief Tim Saul says when he last checked they were down to about 50 tickets. Over 2,000 half-chickens will be prepared for the BBQ. He says proceeds benefit the department by paying for equipment and things that aren’t budgeted for. The dinner is from 11 am to 1:30 pm at the fire station. Tickets are $9 in advance, $10 at the door. There’s delivery, carry-outs, dine-in or drive through. Phone orders will be accepted Saturday from 9 to 11 am and Sunday from 9 am to noon, call (920) 745-2262.
