Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue welcomed back one of their own yesterday from an 18-month deployment with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan. Firefighter paramedic Brett Hefty served as a sergeant working in a remote outpost. His squad leader Sergeant First Class Chris Lauerman said what Hefty brought to the mission that nobody else could was the advanced medical knowledge he learned from working with the Fond du Lac Fire Department. Hefty returned to work on Sunday. He says he appreciates the support he got from family, friends and the community. He was welcomed back Tuesday during a ceremony at Fire Station #1 on Fond du Lac’s South Main Street.
