The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a pickup truck that struck and killed a 6-year-old kindergartner waiting to get on a school bus was driving on the shoulder of the road. Sheriff Wally Zuehlke says the school bus had its required lights activated when 76-year-old Carl Mullenix hit Maryana Kranz and her 4-year-old sister. Kranz died at the scene of the accident on State Highway 73 near Plainfield. Her sister was taken to a hospital where she was treated and released. Officials at the Tri-County Area School District say the Kranz family visited the elementary school yesterday and spent time with a counselor.
