Another Vehicle Crash Into Silver Creek
17 February 2020 News
A 33-year-old man and 41-year-old woman, both from Oshkosh, were taken to the Ripon Medical Center after their vehicle crashed into Ripon’s Silver Creek early Monday morning. Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says the man was subsequently arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant or drug, and imprudent speed. Investigators believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a curve at the West Oshkosh Street and North Union Street intersection. It struck a snowbank, went airborne, and ended up in the water of Silver Creek. A police officer and Ripon firefighter entered the water and got them both out with assistance from other members of the Ripon Area Fire District and Guardian Ambulance. Chief Wallner calls it is an example of great teamwork by the emergency responders at the scene. A passing motorist witnessed the crash and flagged down a police officer at 3:37 am. It’s the second time in less than a month there has been a vehicle crash into the creek at that intersection.
