Ripon Home Damaged By Fire

29 January 2020 News

Ripon firefighters responded to a fire at 352 Belleville Street Tuesday night. Neighbors called Fire Chief Tim Saul about 8 pm. They had heard smoke detectors going off in a neighboring home and could smell something “plasticky” burning. When the rapid response team entered the home they found a fire in the living room, which pushed them back. Chief Saul says the fire was confined to a closet type area, but had some extension. “It did extend into the second floor above that and the floor below it burned through the flooring into the basement. So we had some extension, but it was confined to that specific area.” Saul credits the neighbors for being aware enough when the smoke detectors were going off to call the fire in. He says that helped save the structure.  No one was at home during the blaze and no injuries were reported. Smoke damage has rendered the home uninhabitable for the time being. The cause is believed to be electrical in nature. Fire departments from Brandon, Fond du Lac, Markesan and Princeton also responded but were not needed. Ripon Police and Ripon Guardian Ambulance were also at the scene.
