Fire Call In Ripon Monday Night
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says a fire call to the Kenwood Commons Apartments on Pleasant Street Monday evening wasn’t too serious. The department got a report of a heavy odor of something burning. Saul says they were informed there had been a previous fire there. “They told us they had had an electrical fire there the day before so we were concerned could it be in the walls, up in the attic something like that. So we weren’t taking any chances there was nothing actually it turned out to be a small fire in the oven which was out before we even got there, but we had to track the source down.” As a precaution the second floor of the building was evacuated. The Grand River Fire District from Markesan provided mutual aid with a ladder truck.

Quitting Smoking Could Take Repeated Attempts
The Tobacco Prevention and Control Coordinator for the Fond du Lac County Health Department says if you made a resolution to quit smoking have a good plan and get lots of support. Sandy Bernier is a former smoker herself. She says you have to remember that the person trying to quit is making a lifestyle change and it is their challenge, but you can help by providing the support they ask for. She recommends setting a date to quit and removing your smoking triggers. She says it isn’t easy quitting and for a successful quitter it may take repeated attempts. “But I just say every time you make a quit attempt your practicing to quit for good so 70 percent of Americans who smoke really do want to quit and there is a lot of help out there to help them be successful.” Bernier says if you go to Tobacco Free Living website they have links to more information and websites that will help you quit and you can also call the Wisconsin Quit Line at 1-800-QUIT-NOW or 1-800-784-8669.
