A single vehicle accident on State Highway 21 at Rivermoor Road in the Town of Omro closed down the highway and took out power in the area overnight Monday. A 20-year-old Wautoma man was trapped inside the truck. He was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. Alcohol is a suspected cause in the crash. Damage Reported At Oshkosh Park
The Oshkosh Parks Department says it will cost thousands of dollars to repair the central restrooms in Menominee Park following weekend vandalism. A report was filed with the police department following the vandalism that included busting a sink fixture away from a wall. Parks officials say it is part of repeated acts of vandalism at community parks. Last October someone drove over and damaged a soccer field at Community Park. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity in the parks by calling the police department at 920-236-5700.
Waupun Sewer Rate Increase
Waupun’s Common Council last night approved a 32-percent increase in sewer rates. It will be phased in over a four-year period with an annual increase of 7.2 percent starting in April. Waupun Public Utilities Finance Director Jared Oosterhouse says for the average residential customer that will amount to a yearly increase of about $19 each of those four years. Driving the rate increase are federal and state mandated upgrades to the city’s wastewater treatment plant to reduce phosphorous in the treatment facility.
Active Threat Training For Election Workers
Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis is applauding the Village of Richfield for allowing poll workers and volunteers to take some specialized training while preparing for the upcoming elections. Last Week Safety Resource Deputy Christopher Parkinson instructed about 80 people on active threat training. Sheriff Schulteis commended Village Administrator Jim Healy for his forward thinking about the training. It’s believed the initiative was the first of its kind in the state.
Rural Fire Challenges
Ripon Area Fire District Chief Tim Saul says there are more challenges for the department to fight a structure fire in rural areas of the district. He says the house fire on Cork Street Road last month was difficult because they had to transport water to the scene with no hydrants available there. His department intends to better educate residents living in rural areas about those challenges and safety issues. Saul says the fire truck they took out to the scene of the Cork Street Road fire carries 5,000 gallons of water, but they pump 800 to 1,000 gallons of water a minute onto a fire so it only takes minutes to exhaust that supply.
Congressman Grothman On Iran Situation
According to some polls the majority of the public didn’t agree with the way President Trump handled the recent crisis with Iran, but Congressman Glenn Grothman disagrees. He says President Trump has practiced restraint despite the growing threat. He says Trump doesn’t want war with Iran. He feels the public isn’t aware of some of the things the president has been briefed on that might alter that opinion. The federal lawmaker from Glenbeulah says President Trump gave a great speech about the situation last week, but unfortunately it was during the daytime and not at prime time when more of the country would have been watching and listening to it.
