Oshkosh Man Sentenced For Lying About Gun Purchase

A Federal judge recently sentenced a 19-year-old Oshkosh man to 30 days in jail and three years of extended supervision for purchasing an assault-style rifle for an Oshkosh North student. Hunter Nicholson bought the gun for the 16-year-old boy at a federally licensed firearms dealer in Oshkosh claiming on a federal form he was purchasing the gun for himself. The boy posted a video on Instagram of someone shooting an assault style rife and commenting, “Revealing new school shooter gun.” The boy told Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies he posted the video and made the comment, but it was meant to be a joke.  Nicholson was sentenced after pleading guilty to making a false statement to a federal firearms dealer.

School Crossing Guards Play An Important Role

Ripon Police Chief Bill Wallner says they appreciate the work their school crossing guards do keeping children safe on their way to and from school. The City funds those positions. “That’s actually a city position that we fund for that. So we have five crossing guards that help us out. Four on a permanent basis permanent part-time that are there every day at their intersections then we have a fill-in crossing guard as well.” In addition to the crossing guards, police officers try to make it to the school crossing zones in the mornings and afternoons as well. Chief Wallner asks residents to pay attention in school zones when kids are going to or returning from school each day. He notes there have been a few near misses over the years. This past week was Adult School Crossing Guard Week in Wisconsin.

Field Of Democratic Presidential Candidates Taking Shape

A spokesman for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin feels a Presidential Debate involving the six top Democratic candidates last week gave America a peak at a party who cares about Americans. Philip Shulman says Republicans seem determined to undermine our health care system and a tax break helped out the rich rather than the middle class. He feels some of the things discussed during that debate will get through to voters. “It is refreshing to see that there is actually a political party that is interested and invested in helping make people’s lives better in contrast to the party that seems be more interested in ripping away fundamental things like health care.” Shulman says the Iowa caucuses are just a few weeks away, which will help shape what Democrats want in their Democratic nominees.
