A man suspected of setting a vacant home on fire in Fond du Lac Monday afternoon is in custody. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says, “Thanks to quick thinking witnesses who called 9-1-1 the fire did not extend into the structure and the person who investigators believe to have started the fire is in custody.” Witnesses saw a man leaving the home after the fire began and police picked him up a block from the scene. The home at 518 Allen Street was vacant and gas and electric utilities to it were turned off. The fire was quickly extinguished. The time of the call was 2:21 pm.
