Drive Sober Campaign Underway

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and police departments from throughout the county are participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign that launched over the weekend and runs through New Year’s Day. Police departments participating in the campaign include; Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Oakfield, Rosendale, Brandon-Fairwater, Waupun, Campbellsport, and the Town of Ripon. Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt is encouraging drivers to use a designated driver or Safe Ride program rather than get behind the wheel when they are impaired. “When it comes down to how you are going to get home we want people to make the conscious decision to have an alternative plan. Have a designated driver know what your options are for taxi cabs, know what your options are for who you can call for a ride so that you are not getting behind the wheel while you’re intoxicated.” Last year in Wisconsin, alcohol-related crashes resulted in 160 deaths and nearly 3,300 injuries.

Computer Service Scam

Markesan Police are warning residents about a scam in which the caller poses as being with the business department of a computer service. The caller threatens a charge for services unless a call is made to a 1-800 number to cancel a subscription. They say their toll-free help line number is 1-888-412-0243 and gives you an extension number for “your case.” Police say the scammer is trying to trick you into thinking you have a service you don’t and is looking for personal information or bank or credit card information. They recommend hanging up.

Blood Drives In Princeton And Ripon

Area residents have two opportunities to donate blood this week. Lisa Koeppen is with the Community Blood Center in Appleton. She says this is a time of year when people are less likely to donate blood. They supply blood to 21 hospitals in the area. Their first drive is Wednesday from 12 to 4:30 in the afternoon at Princeton High School. The Ripon Medical Center will host a second drive Friday afternoon from 12 to 3:30. “What is kind of special about this drive is it is close to the holidays and as you can imagine we struggle a little bit to get blood donations up and so we are offering a free long-sleeved t-shirt to anyone   that presents to donate blood that day.” You have to be at least 16 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in generally good health. To make an appointment you can call 1-800-280-4102 or visit the Community Blood Center website.
