FDL Teen Arrested For Threatening To Shoot Up School
A 17-year-old Fond du Lac boy is facing possible making terrorist threats for a posting on social media in which he allegedly made a reference to “shooting up the school” referring to the high school. Police say the threats were accompanied by a photo of a hand gun. The teen is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail awaiting formal charges.
Short Power Outage In Ripon
The Ripon area had another power outage Friday afternoon. Alliant Energy Spokeswoman Anne Marie Newman says it was in the industrial area and affected about 300 customers. The outage began at Noon and lasted about 20 minutes.
Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over Starts Friday
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and police departments from throughout the county will participate in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign that launches Friday and runs through New Year’s Day. Last year in Wisconsin, alcohol-related crashes resulted in 160 deaths and nearly 3,300 injuries. Drivers are asked to use a designated driver or Safe Ride program rather than get behind the wheel when they are impaired. An app is also available on the state DOT’s website that includes a “find a ride” feature. Police departments participating in the campaign include; Fond du Lac, North Fond du Lac, Oakfield, Rosendale, Brandon-Fairwater, Waupun, Campbellsport, and the Town of Ripon.
ADVOCAP Retired And Senior Volunteer Program
ADVOCAP is looking for volunteers for its Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs. Lori Boushele is the Community Outreach Specialist for Volunteer Services for ADVOCAP. She says volunteers act in a number of roles through the program in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Winnebago counties. For example they read books to school children and do some mentoring, they provide companionship for senior citizens and do meal home deliveries, and in Winnebago County they drive seniors to appointments. “As far as supporting the hungry we work at local food pantries, we distribute food we pick up donations that type of thing. We support are community through knitting, singing, building homes through Habitat for Humanity and in Winnebago County only for this one is transportation.” Boushele says for those volunteers it also provides a socialization component and a chance to get out in the community. Paul Osterholm of ADVOCAP says it’s a great opportunity to give back. To volunteer you have to be 55-years-old or older. To find out more about the program call (920) 922-7760 or (920) 426-0150.
Red Kettle Campaign Helps The Needy
Officials with the Salvation Army say people who need a hand up are those they serve with donations made during their Red Kettle campaign. Julie Elliot says their voucher program helps those who need assistance. “The money that we collect through the kettle campaign could be used to help pay rent , a utility, maybe purchase clothing if somebody was in a position where they had to leave their living situation with just what they could carry out so they are looking for clothing or household items.” Elliot says the majority of the money collected during the campaign in Ripon, Brandon, Fairwater, and Rosendale helps out people in the area. Twenty Five FDL County Board Seats At Stake
Nomination papers can now be circulated for public offices that are up for election in the spring including the 25 seats on the Fond du Lac County Board. County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says a Primary Election will be held on February 18th with the President Preference Primary and Spring Election on April 7th. Paperwork for the county supervisor seats is available at the County Clerk’s Office in Fond du Lac. It has to be returned by Tuesday, January 7th. Supervisors serve a two-year term on the board.
Area Organizations Receive Green Bay Packer Foundation Grants
The Green Bay Packers Foundation recently awarded over $1 million in grants to 192 civic and charitable organizations throughout the state. Among the area organizations that received grants during the annual luncheon at the Lambeau Field Atrium were; Agnesian HealthCare Foundation-Treffert Center in Fond du Lac, Drug Free Communities of Fond du Lac County, the Fond du Lac Humane Society, Traded Treasures Thrift and Community Food Pantry in Ripon, Freeland in Green Lake, the Christine Anne Domestic Abuse Services in Oshkosh, the Oshkosh Area Humane Society, and Webster Stanley Middle School in Oshkosh. This year’s grant cycle focused on organizations that will use the funds toward animal welfare, civic and community, environmental, health and wellness including drug and alcohol and domestic violence causes.

Featured Musical Acts For The FDL County Fair Lined Up
Officials with the Fond du Lac County Fair have lined up some country music performers for a couple night of the fair next July. The Roots and Boots 90s Electric Throwdown tour on Thursday, July 16th will feature Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin and Collin Raye. On Saturday, July 18th Chris Janson will perform on the Grandstand. A Rock ‘N’ Roll act for the Friday of the fair is still being lined up. Tickets for those concerts go on sale this Friday at the fair’s website. The fair is July 15th through the 19th.
