You might say Kim Holliday has a little Santa Claus in her. She’s been involved in a number of charitable efforts over the years. She works at the Deli Department at Webster’s Marketplace in Ripon. Part of her community efforts has been through Webster’s Community Connections program, but she’s also been active with other groups. For example she helped put together six tubs of necessities that were brought to the Christine Anne Domestic Abuse Services in Oshkosh, a complete meal from Webster’s was taken to the Day-by-Day Warming Shelter in Oshkosh that serves 25 to 35 homeless people a day. Another effort involved 30 boxes of Joy put together for the holidays for children in third world countries that otherwise would have no Christmas. “Are like shoe boxes that we fill with small items whether they be socks or toys for children who don’t receive Christmas presents at Christmas time and then again go to third world countries where they are handed out and given to them so that they have a Christmas present to open.” One of her more recent efforts was to adopt a local family for the holidays. Community Connections provided a match with a group she works with to provide over $600 in presents, a hot meal, and other items to brighten their holidays. She says paying it forward has its benefits.

Christmas Shopping Advice

Whether you’re shopping at a small local shop or a big box retailer for Christmas gifts a captain with the Town of Ripon Police Department advises you be vigilante. Howard Stibb says any valuable items should be locked in your vehicle and kept out of site while you shop. “The best way is to lay the packages down on the floor area where you can and keep them out of sight, but people they are going to be walking through the parking lot and they are glancing in to see what is in this car, what is in that car.” Other options for keeping gifts out of sight are to lock them in the trunk of cover them with a blanket that you bring along. Stibb says remote car starters make you more comfortable during the winter, but if you have a long walk to your car you might want to wait to start it otherwise you will clue in any possible thieves to which vehicle you are walking to.
