Fewer Deer Harvested During Gun Deer Season

4 December 2019 News

Hunters took about 25 percent fewer deer during the recently completed nine-day gun-deer hunt compared to the 2018 season. DNR officials say 160,769 deer were harvested compared to 213,972 last year.  Lower numbers were in part due to heavy wind, snow and rain during the season and low daytime deer activity. Harvest totals varied by county. In Fond du Lac County hunters took 2,095, Green Lake 1,997, Marquette 3,242, Waupaca County 4,944, Waushara 2,889, Winnebago County 818. In Dodge hunters killed 2,209 and in Columbia County 3,160. A breakdown of totals by buck and antlerless deer are available county-by-county at the DNR’s website.
