One of the programs the Ripon Area United Way sponsors helps young children in the community develop a love of reading. The United Way has teamed up with Dolly Parton’s Foundation for the Imagination Library literacy program. Through it the parents of 274 children in the Ripon area receive new books each month. Jill Puhlmann-Becker is a reading specialist for the Ripon Area School District. She says it is a wonderful program for those ranging from newborns to five years of age. “This is a really super simple way to get access to books for kids as they go from infant to five years old they acquire their own library of 60 books that they get to keep, you know they can share them, they can read with other kids they can read with any caregiver .” She says the stories come with notes on the inside back flap that parents can use to extend learning from those particular books. Those who are interested in participating in the program can register at the Imagination Library website.
