The Packers are back on the practice field today after their bye week. Green Bay (8-2) is playing at San Francisco (9-1) on Sunday night. The 49ers came back to beat Arizona Sunday, 36-26. In the NFC North, Minnesota bounced back from a 20-0 halftime deficit to win at home over the Denver Broncos, 27-23. The Vikings improve to 8-3. Detroit lost at home to Dallas, 35-27 and last night the Bears lost on the road to the Rams, 17-7. Tonight the Chiefs play the Chargers in Mexico City.
The University of Wisconsin football team did its job Saturday, defeating a Nebraska team that was desperate for a win. It also got the help it needed in order to control its own destiny in the Big Ten Conference West Division race — Iowa topping Minnesota means the Badgers win the division if they win out. The Badgers (8-2, 5-2 Big Ten) got more welcome news on Sunday when they moved up a spot to 14th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. LSU remains at number one, followed by Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia and Alabama. Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma, Penn State and Florida rounded out the top ten.
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference co-champion UW-Oshkosh will begin its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III Football Championship with a first round game Saturday (Nov. 23) at American Rivers Conference co-champion and nationally ranked Central College in Pella, Iowa. Kickoff for the fifth meeting between the teams is scheduled for noon at Central College’s Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium. The winner between UW-Oshkosh (8-2) and Central College (9-1) advances to play Nov. 30 against the winner of Wheaton College (Ill.) (10-0) and Martin Luther College (Minn.) (9-1). Central College is ranked 25th in the country by D3football.com while Wheaton College lists fourth. UW-Oshkosh and Central College both earned automatic berths into the NCAA postseason. UW-Oshkosh tied for the WIAC title with UW-Whitewater while Central College shared the ARC championship with Wartburg College (Iowa). UW-Oshkosh, the 2016 Division III runner-up, is back in the national tournament for the fourth time in the past five years. The Titans, who sport a 12-4 record in four previous trips to the NCAA postseason, reached the semifinal round in both 2012 and 2017, and the quarterfinals in 2015. Oshkosh won at home over third-ranked Whitewater on Saturday, 27-20.
Elsewhere in area college action, Illinois State won at home Saturday over Ripon College, 35-21. Ripon finishes the season at 4-6.
Brevin Pritzl had 15 points and 12 rebounds off the bench, and each of the Wisconsin’s five starters scored in double figures as the Badgers defeated in-state rival Marquette 77-61 on Sunday. Brad Davison also had 15 points for Wisconsin (3-1), which won its 12th straight non-conference home game and 300th career game at the Kohl Center, which opened in January 2008. Koby McEwen scored a game-high 19 points for Marquette (2-1), which suffered its first loss of the season. The Golden Eagles were seeking back-to-back wins against Big Ten opponents following their come-from-behind victory over Purdue on Wednesday. The Badgers held a 34-29 lead at halftime with 11 of their points coming off Marquette’s nine first-half turnovers. Wisconsin also outscored the Golden Eagles 18-4 in the paint before the break. Markus Howard had 16 points in the first half on 6-of-12 shooting, while the rest of Marquette shot 4 of 13 from the field. Howard finished with 18. Wisconsin came out firing in the second half, hitting eight 3-pointers in the period to pull away. The rivalry between the two programs, which dates to 1917, stays in the hands of the Badgers. Of the 216 all-time meetings, Wisconsin now holds a 68-58 all-time advantage. Marquette hosts Robert Morris on Saturday while Wisconsin hosts Green Bay on Saturday.
In the NBA tonight, the Milwaukee Bucks (9-3) play the (4-9) Bulls in Chicago.
The Wisconsin Herd posted its fourth consecutive win Sunday, beating Capital City 132-106. The Herd shot 57 percent and a season-high in points.Six Herd players scored in double figures led by three players who recorded 20 or more points. Jaylen Adams buried seven three-pointers, collected his second 20-point
game of the season and totaled a game-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Cameron
Reynolds posted a stat line of 24 points, four rebounds, two assists and four
steals, and has now scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games. Luke Maye added
a season-high 22 points, five threes and seven rebounds off the bench, while Shannon Bogues recorded his first double figure scoring effort and registered a season-high 19 points. Rayjon Tucker had 16 points and three assists, and D.J. Hogg pitched in with 11 points in a reserve role. Wisconsin will continue their four-game road trip on Wednesday night against the Lakeland Magic with the tipoff at 6:00pm.
