Hometown Broadcasting Sports Friday 11/1/19

1 November 2019 Sports

The Packers will leave later today for Los Angeles where they play the Chargers on Sunday.  Green Bay is 3-0 on the road this year, compared to last year when the Packers won just one game.  Left tackle David Bakhtiari says some of the reasons are time of possession, being able to sustain drives, running the football and good defense.  The Packers will face a veteran quarterback in Phillip Rivers.  Cornerback Tramon Williams says Rivers is a very smart player and they will have to contain the Chargers receivers.

Receiver Davante Adams saw limited action again in practice on Thursday.  He’s been nursing a turf toe injury since the Eagles game.  Also seeing limited action yesterday was right tackle Bryan Bulaga, Jimmy Graham, Aaron Jones, Mercedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Danny Vitale and Tramon Williams.

Sunday’s game begins at 3:25 with the pregame starting at 1:00 on 102.3, The Bug.

For the second straight week, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was voted by fans as the FedEx Air Player of the Week.  In Kansas City on Sunday night, Rodgers completed 23-of-33 passes for 305 yards with three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 129.0 passer rating in the Packers’ 31-24 victory over the Chiefs. He won the award, as well as NFC Offensive Player of the Week, the week prior for a maximum and franchise-record 158.3 passer rating vs. Oakland.

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame will welcome the “dangerous cornerback duo” of Al Harris and Charles Woodson to the prestigious institution in 2020.  Harris and Woodson will be inducted into the hall during the 50th Packers Hall of Fame Banquet. The ceremony will be held in the Lambeau Field Atrium Sunday, April 18, 2020. Harris joined the Packers in 2003 and played eight seasons in Green Bay. He racked up 14 interceptions. He was nominated to back-to-back Pro Bowls in 2007 and 2008.

Charles Woodson joined the Packers as a free agent in 2006. During his seven-year career with the Packers, he racked up 38 interceptions and 115 passes defensed.  Woodson was selected to four consecutive Pro Bowls.  “In 2009, arguably his finest season as a pro, he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year by The Associated Press and earned All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. His nine interceptions that year are tied for the second most in a season in Packers history,” reads a statement from the Packers.  Woodson played his last three seasons with the Oakland Raiders before retiring in 2015. The Packers say they will release details about ceremony tickets in the near future.

In Thursday Night Football, the 49ers improved to 8-0 by holding on at Arizona to win 28-25 over the Cardinals, who drop to 3-5-1.

In the NBA tonight, Milwaukee plays at Orlando.  The Bucks lost at Boston Wednesday and are 2-2 in the Eastern Conference. The Magic are also 2-2.

In WIAA Sectional volleyball action,  Appleton North, Kimberly, Luxemburg-Casco, and NEW Lutheran were among the area winners in Thursday’s semifinals.
