Resignation From Ripon CATV Committee

There’s a vacancy on Ripon’s Cable TV Committee. Mandy Hughes resigned from the committee Monday. In an email to committee members and city officials she said her responsibilities as Berlin’s Middle School Principal didn’t allow her time to attend meetings during the school year. Assignment to the committee is done through Mayoral appointment and the Common Council’s approval.

Vehicle Emergency Kit Suggested For Winter Driving

Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says just like it’s important to have an emergency kit for your home, during the winter you need one for your car as well. She says no one plans to get stranded on a roadside during the winter, but it can happen and if that’s the case you need to be prepared. “People need to always be prepared to slide into a ditch or to get stranded on a road that isn’t plowed and in order to do that you need to make sure that can sustain yourself until help can arrive.” She suggests including food, water, a flashlight and batteries, and blankets for that kit. You should also consider a snow shovel, extra gloves and hats, and kitty litter or sand to help give your wheels traction on icy roads if you do get stuck.

Veterans Appreciation Event

The Ripon Senior Activity Center will host a veterans’ appreciation event at the center this Wednesday from 1 to 2 pm for area veterans. Center Executive Director Noreen Johnson says the social event is for veterans of any age. “We will have cookies and coffee, some sharing time just to let you know that we appreciate you and all you do and help you maybe connect with some other veterans. It’s open to veterans of any age not just seniors.” Johnson is a veteran herself and a member of the local American Legion Post.
