Markesan Woman Sentenced For Drug Overdose Death

A 40-year-old Markesan woman has sentenced to seven years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision on a first degree reckless homicide charge. Jackie Meyer, formerly of Beaver Dam, supplied the heroin that led to the August 2016 death of Karen Sadowski of the Town of Fox Lake. Meyer took Sadowski to a drug dealer in Madison. After the overdose she asked her boyfriend to lie about where she was when Sadowski overdosed. Sadowski died at a hospital early the morning after her overdose. Meyer was sentenced in Dodge County court last Friday.

Driver Involved In Fatal Dodge County Accident Arraigned

The 48-year-old Juneau man that allegedly drove on a suspended license when he caused a fatal traffic accident was recently arraigned in Dodge County court. Robert Underwood pleaded not guilty to charges. He told investigators that he was coughing and choking before he abruptly crossed the centerline on State Highway 60. The September 2017 crash killed the other driver Beverly Vincent, and sent her passenger Bryan Vincent to a hospital with serious injuries. Underwood’s license was suspended due to a speeding ticket. He claims he paid the fine, but didn’t have enough patience to stand in a long line to get his license reinstated. A scheduling conference is slated in the case next month.

A truck driver in Washington County faced a real-life fright early Halloween morning when his semi stalled on a railroad crossing with a Canadian National freight training bearing down on him. The railroad crossing arms came down on the truck and he exited the cab just before the train struck the truck at 35 miles an hour. It pushed the truck a mile down the tracks before it could stop. The truck driver wasn’t injured. The truck was carrying 80,000 pounds of sand from a nearby gravel pit. It happened about 5:30 Thursday morning.

Village Of Coloma Water Boil Order Remains In Effect

A water main break that led to a boil water order in the Village of Coloma is fixed and water has been turned on. But Village Clerk Brenda Walker says the boil or bottled water order remains in effect until at least Tuesday. The DNR requires two separate samples of water to be tested 24 hours apart for possible contamination. The labs that do the testing weren’t open over the weekend. The boil order is only for water that will be consumed. The order doesn’t apply to washing dishes, clothes or showering.
